    First Swede Mauser

Float Pilot, I was grinning ear to ear after shooting this for the first time. Never know what you'll find at the pawn shop! Thanks for posting the production numbers and history.

    First Swede Mauser

Finally made it to the range today, 65 degrees in February made for a great trip. The m38 shot great, very little recoil. I may be hooked on the 6.5x55! Bench shots using 139gr SP Prvi Partizan ammo and irons. First group at 50 yards. 100 yard group. I'm sure this rifle will do more, but my...

    Recommendation for a 20" 7.62x39

CZ makes a bolt carbine in 7.62x39. It isn't 20" but it might fit your needs. I've never handled one, but it is on my ever growing. "list". :) http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-527-carbine/

    First Swede Mauser

That is what I'm thinking about the scope as well. I'll probably take the bases off and see if Brownell's has some filler screws, as Float Pilot suggested.

Yes, the front is also drilled. I just took the front base off to see the date mark.

    First Swede Mauser

I bought my first Swedish Mauser a couple days ago for $230. It's a 1941 m38, cleaning rod is missing and it’s been tapped for sight bases. I haven't had a chance to get it to the range. I've been wanting a 6.5 for awhile and this seemed like a good deal. How did I do? The rear scope base has...

How to cut down the costs (of recreational shooting)?

As for targets, I noticed my local indoor range used targets from http://www.letargets.com/index.aspx I went to their website and found I could buy them bulk for 30 some cents a target instead of a buck a piece. This is the target I use. http://www.letargets.com/estylez_item.aspx?item=SI-5 They...

    Marlin 1894 C .357 mag.

I've put many rounds of jacketed soft point .357 and .38 through my Marlin without a hiccup. I've tried some hollow point .357 as well. It did fine. Thus far the only problems I've had were during hunting season, the ammo I was using...

    "redneck assault rifle" for California

I own a Marlin 1894 in .357/.38. I have recently put the XS sights and Weaver rail on it and couldn't be happier. It is fast becoming my favorite all around rifle. It does well for deer hunting inside 100 yards; in a home defense role the .357 is perceived as a stopper in a pistol, it is that...

    Ithaca 37 questions

1st post, this is a great site. =) There is a model 37 on the used rack at the local shop. 12 ga. 2 3/4 with engraving on the side. The barrel says it's a mod. choke but the the barrel has been cut down to about 20" and had a bead put on it. I've been looking for a wingmaster or a 37 in this...
