Long Term Review: Kimber .22 Hunter

Oh yeah!!!!! Kimbers are all that and a bag o' chips !! I thought I was crazy back in the 80's to buy a .22 for nearly $700 bucks . But it is left-hand , it shoots like yours and it drives people crazy trying to figure out why it's soooo accurate . Sounds like ya got a great gal too . Jack

    M1 Garand and mangled brass

Of the Garands I've shot the worst offender dinged the necks about 4% of the time and not bad enough that the expander button wouldn't fix it . Not to worry friend , shoot and be happy . Jack

    Rusty!

I stayed at it most of the winter . M1 Garand at 450 yards using 300 yard repair centers . Egad ! those things are small but it's the biggest I had . The snow made for an interesting time in January  shooting through the snowflakes . I hope to show better at the range now that good...

what kind of accuracy should I expect?

Shooting with the sling attached on a lever rifle is generally not helpful because of uneven sling tension . Try changing your position and see what happens . I've heard lever rifles can be free floated to relieve barrel pressure but I haven't looked into it . Jack

    Damn Wind!

It is disheartening to have your spotting scope blown to the fourth guy on your right . But not so bad when the skinny little guy that's whupped on yer score for the last six matches is caught away with the cattle and Dorothy's house :what: The match must go on ! Jack

    Portuguese ammo in an M1A

The best ammo is what works in your rifle . Mine likes Port, southAfrican or M852 . Hirtenburger is good if ya can find it . I'm into my third or fourth case of SouthAfrican and I'm glad I bought it . When you find what works , a home equity loan is a good thing to use to remodel your basement...

    Q re: M1A

I'm a lefty and after shooting three M1A's and about three dozen M1 Garands , I've only had one Garand throw a case at me . Swapped the ejector spring with a shorter one and the problem was solved . The M1A will excite you . Jack

    .303 Enfield

I second the voice for a #4Mk2 ! If you can hold minute of pie plate a 300 so can it . I've only used Greek surplus ammo in mine, But I'm sure handloads tuned to the rifle will make it work well for a long time to come . I also have a #1Mk3 that has a groove diameter of .318 and as long as you...

    M1 Garand range report.

I haven't graduated to using anything but surplus M-2 bullets and pulldown powder yet . But it sounds like you got ahold of a great starting point when I do . Jack

Highpower positions, sling use, and gloves...pics!

I guess I'm moving in the right direction then . I'm still trying to do this with whatever I might have with me in the beanfield at the time . Special pants and spray on stickum almost seems like ...like cheatin':D In order to get to the top of the thirty caliber pile I realize that's what I'll...

What rifle should I get next?

If I didn't already have a M1A , I'd go out and buy one . I might just buy another anyway ! Got the Garand already to compare it to and I like the Garand ....but the M1A excites me !! Hard to go wrong either way you go on this one , just depends what you want out of a thirty caliber rifle ...

Highpower positions, sling use, and gloves...pics!

Steve , I enjoyed the thread . I'm working with the Garand untill I get it worked out . So far my rapids are the worst , I've tried cross leg and cross ankle and results are about the same . I have found that a very tight sling seems to help . Any Ideas ? Thanks , Jack
