    <$100 Decent Spotting Scope?

I have some fixed power 20 Barska binoculars. They work very well. So I will give a +1 to Barska optics. I also give a +1 to the idea of buying the spotting scope used. You can almost always find a decent used spotting scope at a local gun show. The price is typically around $40. Good luck.

    Bersa 45C Pro?

My Bersa Compact .45 was very reliable and shot nicely. The only problem with it was that the grip did not fit my hand properly. When you evaluate the pistol, make sure that the grip is not too big for you.

Microgroove vs. deep cut Ballard rifling on Marlins for cast bullets.

I shoot cast bullets in my 336 but I limit the velocity of my loads to a max of 1400 fps. I use these loads for lever action silohouette shooting. I use jacketed soft points for loads above 1400 fps. I use 165 grain cast lead and 170 grain jsp. For my reduced silohouette loads I use Unique...

History Channel's "Top Shot" on Sunday night

Mea Culpa: Poor word choice and improper spirit. Dear Forum Members and Moderators, In a recent post I used the word "shilling" to describe the support the moderators have shown in this thread for "Top Shot." This was a poor choice on my part. I did not intend to impugn the integrity of...

History Channel's "Top Shot" on Sunday night

Some things finally happened last night that I'd been waiting for: Tara in a tank top and Brad going bye-bye. Personally, I have tried all three of the trick shots they featured and the soda can trick is certainly the hardest. I have never tried shooting clays but I'm heading out this morning...

History Channel's "Top Shot" on Sunday night

Why didn't they present Lead Dispenser as a SASS Champion. Why the corny "Speed Shooting Champion" and why not introduce him with his shooting alias? I recognized him from his thumbing technique even before they showed his face on camera. Also, Adam continued to reveal himself as a total jerk...

History Channel's "Top Shot" on Sunday night

I'm wondering if the awful behavior of some of the contestants last night is enough to break down the dogged defense of this crummy show being offered by some in this thread.

    Colt Python: Best .357Mag ever?

I think that the Python is the best collector's .357. I strongly favor blued 4" .357s. The best shooting .357 is the S&W Model 19 Combat Magnum. Perfect weight, balance, presentation, action, and performance. I would even place the S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman ahead of the Python as a...

    Brass Shavings after Bullet Seating

One other thing you might want to look at is how much you are expanding the case mouth before seating. On pistol loads with lead bullets the case mouth has to be expanded just a little. The Lee sets have a expanding die that is through drilled to allow the powder to go in at the same stroke of...

How would you run Top Shot?

I would have selected the top shooters in many different types of missile weapons and firearms: semi-auto pistols, SA revolvers, bench shooters, silhouette shooters, archers, sling-shot experts, knive and shirkin throwers and maybe even javelin throwers, pitchers and quarterbacks. I would...

    Your favorite gun song

Cocaine Blues by Johnny Cash... Early one morning while making the rounds I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down. I shot her down then I went to bed. I stuck that lovin' .44 beneath my head.

History Channel's "Top Shot" on Sunday night

I don't think anyone posted that Top Shot was the worst show ever. Television networks, producers, and participants on televisions shows open themselves up for criticism by realizing shows for public consumption. The History Channel, with the advertising they used and the editing of Top Shot...

History Channel's "Top Shot" on Sunday night

This episode was a bitter disappointment. The only thing I liked was Andre drilling the bull on Mike's Elimination Challenge Target. (Yeah, this one's for you Sgt. York!) The kid showed plenty of skill but zero class, up to and including bragging about the "smiley face" and making sure he...

handloading subsonic .357 for Handi Rifle

I would start with 3.0 grains of Red Dot. That should get around 700 fps from a six inch pistol barrel. Using the 25 fps per inch rule-of-thumb adds about 250 fps for a guesstimate of 950 fps. +1 on the recommendation on staying with the .38 brass and load data though specific data for 180...
