    Reloading 6.5x55SE for elk hunting

46.7 grains of MRP (the mother of RL 22) here for my m/96 behind Lapua 144 grains FMJ @ 3.100". No pressure signs, very good accuracy.

    VihtaVuori

Quickload predictions - theory and reality

Sorry, I forgot to mention, I had measured the case capacity the way you described and put in all values as accurately as possible. Otherwise it would have been hard to get an SD of 11.5. My point is: How is it possible that QL predicts 2800 fps and the chrono gives me only 2430?

Quickload predictions - theory and reality

Hello, I am reloading for 6.5x55 (Swedish Mauser m/96), using the following components: Powder: Norma MRP Primer: CCI BR2 Bullet: Lapua B 343, 144 gr Brass: Lapua (virgin) I worked up some test loads using the OCW/OBT method. After some careful calculations with QL I got very good...

    loading for 8 x 57 JS

"This was all with 150 Hornady spire points." BsChoy, good you mention that as I'm about to order HDY SPPs or Sierra Pro Hunters as a less expensive alternative to the 200 MKs.

    loading for 8 x 57 JS

I can't help you with the Noslers, but I am reloading 200 grs Sierra Matchkings in front of Varget (46.2 grs) and N 140 (45.7 grs) to my full satisfaction. Just follow the recommendations published in the manuals and work your way up from 10% below max. 8 x 57 IS is known to have sweet spots in...

    Best Prices on FMJ Bullets??

Scott, you didn't reveal which calibers you are reloading for. But IF you are reloading for 6.5x55 and IF you have a special reason to use FMJs, the Lapua B 343 (144 grs) is the way to go. They give me sub-MOA groups even from my Swede.

    Measuring groups

Back to measuring groups: +1 for Bad Flynch's statistics. The more shots the better, but there is a reasonal limit to it. According to Speer's ballisticians, 7 shots would be sufficient. Apart from shooting load ladders, I am shooting 10 shot groups to test a loads's overall accuracy. For me...

I hate trimming, chamfering, and deburring

Simple solution: scrap your brass and get a truckload of Lapua. After initial trimming all mine have seen is the tumbler and the necksizing die - for 25 reloading cycles now.

    6.5mm bullet question?

As a good compromise you should consider the Hornady 140 grs SP. It is very accurate from my Swede and terminal ballistics is very reliable.

    6.5x55 velocity with Varget?

Nordic powders for a nordic caliber If you have access to this powder, consider Norma MRP. Excellent accuracy. More than that, I found N 165 very consistent - with the difference to RL 22. N 160 on the other hand has a nasty tendency to heat up the barrel rather quickly. H 380 is not a bad...

    powder for .308

I am using N 140 with 178 A-MAXes to my great satisfaction. The 168 SMKs went well with Varget + CCI BR2s.

    Test Results: 8x57mm Mauser JS

You never can go wrong with a 98. Congratulations on the nice group. But, alas, it is not unusual. 15 rds, incl. 1 shot cold bore and 3 w/ hot barrel

milsurp reloading: 303 and 8mm Mauser

As for the K 98k: No need to try to seat the bullets to the lands. The thrat is simply too long. You'll end up somewhere between 3.100" and 3.150". Oftentimes, a shorter COL gives you better accuracy. Usually you'll find two soft spots on your load ladder: one at the lower and one at the...
