I hear mixed opinions regarding the use of magnum primers when standard are called for when loading starting loads, regardless of the type of powder. What's your take?
Let's face it -- handloading is not for everybody. For most of us, handloading adds a great deal to the pleasure of our shooting, plus the fact that we know we can load better rounds than the factories can when they turn out thousands of rounds an hour. Go to a benchrest match some time and...
For my 1895 Marlin, I load 55gr 3031 for 300 gr Rem bullets @ 1900 fps, and 52 gr 3031 for 405 Rem bullets @ 1770 fps. As usual, be sure to start at 10% less powder and work up for safety.
Apply a very thin layer of Imperial sizing lube to case (except shoulder) with fingers, & thin layer to inside neck with Q tip, then size. Wipe off with paper or cloth towel, & inside neck with Q tip. No more dents!
I'm a new member returning to handloading after a few years absence. I unfortunately didn't keep my old records and can't recall my best powder for 55gr V Max, Rem brass, CCI. Will appreciate your thoughts. Thanks
Free Linotype
I stopped casting bullets a few years ago. I have several hundred pounds of linotype ( a 55 gal. drum 2/3 or more full) I will give to someone who will come and pick it up at my place about 40 miles north of SanAntonio.
