    need help pricing a gun-Ruger m77 hawkeye

I just bought an M77. Mine was new and I did not pay retail because I am family to the shop owner, but there was a used compact in 6.8 there with a cheaper scope than what you are talking about going for $650.00. Stainless is a little higher. I would not take anything less than 650 or 7 for it...

    guns that exceeded your expectations

The gun that I feel the most comfortable with and that I trust for its reliability is my Glock 23 Gen 4. I have never had a malfunction of any kind with it. I have used all kinds of ammo, including expensive and cheaper than dirt. I am able to shoot it accurately and it is quite comfortable to...

    My Buck

Awesome buck! Awesome rifle too. Congrats.

    Minimum Distance for sighting in

I have heard all kinds of different ways to sight in a rifle. There probably isn't one right way. I prefer to start at 25 yards and then move to 100. I like a 100 yard zero. The last buck I killed was 20 yards broadside. The farthest one was my first deer 20 years ago...It was about 175 and I...

    Better bolt rifle brands?

The Marlin bolt action does pretty well, meaning moa @ 100. Sporter barrels heat up and lose accuracy but the first 3 shots from a cold barrel are tight. Perfect hunting rifle. Light weight (6 lbs wo scope), fluted bolt, adjustable trigger, recessed crown. I have one in 308. Will be deer hunting...

    Ruger M77 Hawkeye Compact

Thanks mac. As for the break-in, maybe I'm a little over-zealous, but I want to make sure that there are no metal shavings, so I will thoroughly clean it before I even shoot it. Take a few shots, let it cool, clean it...repeat process until hearts content. That is just my ritual after buying a...

    Ruger M77 Hawkeye Compact

thanks for the feedback fellas. Sounds like it will be a great gun. Now the hard part is I have two weeks (less) to go through the barrel break-in procedure, mount a scope and get it sighted in. No problem if you don't work 14 hr days :o

    Ruger M77 Hawkeye Compact

I'm sure that 16.5 in barrel heats up quickly. Glad to hear it is a good rifle and a good investment.

    Ruger M77 Hawkeye Compact

Just picked up a compact in 243. I will use it as a scout rifle, deer rifle for the kids, possibly a varmint rifle. If anybody out there has any experience with the compact (in any cal) please share. Any suggestions on a scope with the correct eye relief for this shorty would be appreciated as...

10mm vs 45 ACP which has more stopping power.

I am a nurse, I have been shooting for over 20 years, and I have done my homework. Getting hit with a bullet is like getting hit by a baseball, only a baseball won't make you bleed out typically. Bullets do nerve damage, tissue damage, and blood loss. If the bullet doesn't disrupt the nervous...

10mm vs 45 ACP which has more stopping power.

Stopping Power point of view Stopping power is a myth. A shot of any cal can have the opposite of desired effect: it can cause "a superman effect" if the shot is not well placed no matter what the cal. The bullet stops by incapacitating the suspect: head, heart, major arteries, spine, etc...

Best bang for the buck deal on .40 S&W pistol?

Does it have to be used? I just bought a NIB Glock 23 Gen 4. I am skeptical about anything that gets a lot of hype, so I was reluctant, but the gun will not malfunction. I have put the cheapest wal mart crap through it that I could find and it will not fail with 165 or 180 grain. Groups are no...

What is the last gun that you bought?

Mine was a Glock 23 Gen 4. One before that was a Kahr cw40. Heard bad things about the Kahr, tried it for myself: functions flawlessly. Hearing some negative things bout the new 23: my guess is it will function flawlessly too. Haven't shot it yet.
