I have this old rifle---so goes the old saying.

I've done searches 'til I'm about to go cross eyed. Here's some pics,,--HELP!

Bore is horrible. It chambers a 8X57 Mauser shell. It looks like the fore end wood has been cut off at some time or another.

Evidence of wood against the barrel ahead of that cut and a barrel band.
 
I agree with Goosey, or a 35.

Don't you just love how you can literally search till you have a headache, make a post asking about it, and 30 minutes later.....voilà.

I don't plan on shooting it, my nephew brought it to me with the 2 famous questions, what is it, and how much is it worth? The condition of the bore is so bad, I doubt you could hit the broad side of a barn from the inside! It may even be unsafe.

I spend most of my time here on TFL over on the reloading forum, glad to see there's more info when a person needs it!
