I have a S&W Model 49 that is becoming one of my favorite revolvers.

It's a great carry gun, and heavy enough to be easy to shoot.

Does anyone else like these humpbacks?

Let's see some pictures of 49's, 38's, 649's, etc.

Yes but not the same variety. I like the 442, 642 style internal hammer guns more than the shrouded hammer variety like you show. Feels kinda like my safety hammerless which I really like. A 642 is on the Christmas list. When my house sells I may treat myself to a 642 and my wife to an LCR 22 mag.

I started with a nickel plated Model 38 many years ago. It was perfect for pocket carry when I use to take the dog for a walk in some less than trendy neighborhoods when I was out on my own. Bought the first Model 649 I saw, shortly after they were introduced. A few years ago, looking for something a bit lighter than my Model 649, I came across a decent deal on a Model 638 and got it for warm weather carry.

I have a fondness for these guns that dates back to my childhood; saw them in gun magazines at the barber shop while waiting for a haircut and just loved the look of them.

Love shrouded hammers! I carry a spurless SP101 a lot more than anything other revolver, and a 642 second behind it, but I absolutely love my 649. Not sure why I carry my 642 more than my 649, now that I think about it, maybe I'll change that up in the rotation...

To me, the shrouded hammer has all of the advantages of a DAO or an SA/DA, without any of the drawbacks: It has the ability to shoot SA for precision, without the headache of a snaggable hammer. Or alternatively, humpbacks have the snagless nature of a DAO but without being painted into a corner by a long and heavy trigger.

Personally, I'm not the most fond of them. I used to think that the single action option was reasonable, but I have discovered that a good double-action trigger can do the same thing.

Since you asked, yes! One of my EDC guns is a S&W Model 38 Airweight, nickel. While I don't often shoot single action, I like having my thumb on the hammer when I reholster.

My good friend either carries a 638 or an LCPIn his pocket all the time. I was thinking about purchasing a 642 but after buying a PM45 I don't feel the need. I like their functionality but not wild about their looks. The pics above show some very handsome pieces.

I think that they are a little ugly.....but I like them functionally. Guns have something in common with women an puppies.....there is a beauty of lines and a beauty of disposition that outweighs just good lines.

I love humpbacks! There's nothing sexier than a humpback when it's all oiled down and ready to go. Wait...... we're talking about guns. :uhoh:

Seriously though, even though I don't own one, and I gave up my one and only j frame a few years ago, there's something classic about the humpbacks. If I had more discretionary funds, I'd pick one up.
