Thanks for the link! Although i no longer buy powder (i have..it is very helpful for those who are in need and/or have been waiting for supplies to be restocked. I wonder if stocks will ever get so dry for a long while that we will have to resort to making our own if we want to continue shooting.
Probably going to irritate some folks but in my old age, sometimes tough love is the best medicine.
I've read these threads of "the sky is falling" on black powder and whining about not being able to find supplies. They're on about every forum or social media that has something about shooting. I've posted where to get it and I've had no problems getting either powder or caps. The whiners don't listen and take advantage of it and support a little guy, then too bad. I'm not helping you out. Get stingy and want just one pound at your local brick and mortar, don't whine cuz they aren't going to stock a couple pounds and put up with the regulations and expenses just for those who only want a pound or so each year.
Bottom line- there has be virtually NO shortage of black powder and caps this year if you spend a bit of time and know sources. I don't care what your local brick n mortar does cause that's a different business model and face it, yer small taters in the economic picture with mom n pop when you only want one or two pounds. I haven't let up a bit in my shooting black powder this year. I'm still going through about 30+lbs per year with equal amounts of caps. I haven't had any issues in getting powder and caps. With the amount I order, the hazmat is just a nuisance charge if I don't pick up and when I've pooled with some of my fellow competitors, it became even less of a problem. We're even still shooting the cannon at a half pound per shot.
My point here- quit whining, do research, know sources, know others you can pool with, know alternate sources (fireworks guys), keep shooting and have fun in spite of things. Best revenge on those guys is living well and having fun.
It occurs to me that there could be a catastrophic event affecting the Goex plant that could disrupt the supply of black powder.
We really don't know what kind of stockpiles that Goex has, or the precautions that they have taken to minimize damage if there was a major event.
In that respect it's sad that the US only has one black powder manufacturer.
On the other hand, there's one made in France named Vectan that we've heard about but have never seen ir imported here. --->>> https://www.titanobel.com/en/explosives-and-accessories/black-powder

FINALLY I have a pound of Swiss fffg. Thank you for the link! Somehow, despite my best efforts to shoot through my lesser preferred powders (Goex, 777), I always seem to have enough to roll 15-30 paper cartridges for a day of plinking. I swear that the powder gremlins have been sneaking in at night to refill the containers and keep me from ever getting to use my quality stuff.
Great to know BP is back in stock. My Darling wife picked me up a bunch at the Phoenix gun show this weekend. Now all I need is a way to make caps. Got plenty of round ball ammo. Oh yeah just updated my profile pic after re-finishing the grips. Got that dark stain off of them finally.
Your welcome for the link.
GOEX is a quality product. The ol' red n Black
Red can Goex isn’t their best. That would be Old Eynsford. Like regular and premium at the gas station.
I finished them with beeswax and a bit of tru oil.Don,
Its always a good idea when its available to pick up a few lbs. Then before you know you've got enough holy black to ride out a storm for a few months/years. Ive been blessed to always have access to the holy black but i would use prodex, triple 7 or APP in a pinch. I try and buy whats available and what i know i'll use. Ive got a few lbs of triple 7 that im not the biggest fan of but i keep it just in case. Great job on the handles btw what are your future plans for them or are they finished?
Most all of it is still in stock. I didn’t know we all had such restraint.
