How about making the projectile like a shuttlecock , condensed in the magazine , opening up when fired . But I don't see how this will ever compete with conventional firearms . Ammo has a shelf life of at least a century , judging from some WW2 still functioning . newer powders and primer tech. should last a lot longer . And even if they can get some spin on it , its gonna need to be 4 inches long to be any kind of ballistic coefficient at all . Or have a heavier core .

You just gave me a great idea for a new gizmo to sell to hikers: a 2 farad capacitor in a handheld case with two sharpened spikes shielded by spring-loaded insulators. When Mr. Bruin makes his charge you jab him with the Ursomizer™️ and fry his gizzard.

Sooo...a one shot tazer with a single DC pulse?

I'm sure it'll grab his attention, but the results may not be pretty!

:p

This guy was at the State Fair of Texas in the mid/late 1930s with this version he was hoping to sell to the military...

Hmm, modern electronics and power supplies in a fixed mount like that and you might be getting somewhere.

It seems to me that a coil gun would benefit from a long barrel even more than a firearm, more coils to keep driving the slug. But that is getting us into the realm of the Heinlein "booster gun" or German "high pressure pump."

On a serious note I wonder what a higher powered taser or stun gun would do to a grizzly?

It will make him angry.

Very, very angry.

There are videos to be found of people tazering bulls that I've seen. In one the bull was knocked off his feet, but was most definitely not down for the count since he immediately got back up with a very sour disposition.
