What did you shoot today?

Not today, but two days ago I tested some loads in my new Howell Conversion Cylinder in the New Model Army. Smokeless loads worked decently, black powder, not so much, but that was my bad loads, wrong bullet, not enough lube, not enough powder. But man did they LOOK cool!

That's Da Boy trying black powder cartridges in the 1858 New Model Army. I have some new bullets cast, gonna get some FAR better black powder lube, and try again.

Shot my Savage 204 Ruger. Grandson shot my 204, his Bergara 6.5 CM and Glock 17. Top target is the 204 with 32 gr VMAX, gonna play with the seating depth. The ES and SD have been consistent.Bottom is 40 gr VMAX( 1st time shooting them). Gonna fine tune the powder amount.

Thanks. I spent alot time out in the Mojave desert, Blythe and Salton Sea area shooting and quail, dove and duck hunting. California was a sportsman's paradise growing up.

J frame day on the range. A S&W 637, 642, and 442 all 38+p. A Taurus 605 357mag also.
I have been thinking about buying a M&P 340 357mag, but at 14 ounces I think it would surpass my recoil level with magnum loads.
I shot a few 158 grain hardcast +p 38s in the airweights. They are smoking at about 1100 fps. from the 1 7/8" barrels. They MAX out my recoil tolerance.
The Taurus weights 24 oz and with magnum loads it's stout with recoil. 20240501_103926.jpg

I did a little New York reload practice with all 4. Loaded them up stuck one in each pocket and unloaded them into a target...
It was fun 😁 😂 😀 😄

For me, it was a 1911 day at the range. I took my EDC Kimber Arctic LW and a Tisas to the range. I had put together an assortment of every different profile of JHP I could find in my ammo fort, as well as some RN range ammo as a control. I was looking for these many Kimber issues I keep hearing about. I needed to know that my EDC was going to perform if, heaven forbid, I ever need to use it. I hadn't shot the Kimber in many months, so it was time to exercise it a little.

I shot 76 rounds, most from the Kimber. No issues.

I also took a friend's Ruger 10/22 to zero its new scope, which was fun. I need to get a Ruger 10/22.

Managed to do some fine tuning on the scope that the muzzle loader recently got. It's a Leupold VX Freedom 2-7x 33mm that should be a nice matchup for a 50 cal. inline. IMG_0133.JPG .. Also brought the Lee-Enfield #4 Mk 1 along with several different batches of 303 British handloads, mostly with 180 gr. soft points. All of which shot to the left of aim point, although some produced decent groups at 100 yds. Looks like that front sight blade needs to be drifted over a hair to the left to center the groups better. One thing nice about the Lee-Enfield #4's is the rear aperture (peep) sight. Older eyes really appreciate peep sights. IMG_0115.JPG ..That's a 6" black bull on that NRA 100 yd. High Power target at 100 yards downrange. It may even look closer because I zoomed in on it for the photo. IMG_0114.JPG .. Spent so much time cleaning the muzzle loader that I had to skip shooting the S&W 686 4" revolver with the +P+ .38 Spl. handloads that I have been recently playing with. Maybe next time. But fun was had on a beautiful, ( tee shirt weather), morning in May.

Shot my 510T again today. Man that thing is loud. I'm getting the idea the neighbors are annoyed. All the trailer park screaming and yelling quiets down for a while after. Usually takes me as long or more to find all the brass as it does to shoot it.
