Being the cheap bas#*xd I am, I won't spend a dime on today's Gun magazines. Many of you would be surprised on how the quantity & quality have declined during the past 35 years. I have to admit that the power of advertising through slick pictures must have some merit or mfgr's wouldn't spend so much money on it. I like to pluck down at my favorite book store and browse while drinking their "coffee special" of the day...
For me, these are the most impressive picture-shots in this order,..What are yours??
#1. Ed Brown----They must spend hours setting up for proper angle, etc...
#2. Kimber-------Exotic model names, pride themselves in showing their serrations.
#3. Les Baer-----Their pictures have been decreasing in quality, IMHO.
#4. Bill Wilson----New kid on the block w/glossy pictures that is, and are getting the idea from others..
Now, I wonder how much of that $1,000+ pistol is going for this type of advertising?

If I were a gun manufacturer, I'd would trade with Inchiro Nagata, his pick of my entire product line in exchange for photos.......He could make a turd look edible.

I never could understand why companies such as Snap-On tools have such poor photos on their websites. Pictures sell! I would expect gun manufacturers to have the highest quality pictures showing off their products. Browning comes to mind when I think of GOOD gun manufacturers' pictures. This shotgun picture for example is 1550 pixels wide!

Springfield Armory doesn't exactly have the most artistic or crazy or mouth-watering pictures on their site, but, by God, they're big, so you can see lots of detail. If only they'd have a picture from each side of each gun, I'd be in love.

Kel-Tec has pretty good "Straight-on" shots of their guns; the SU-16 pictures are gigantic.

For a couple of decades in the post-WWII era, one gun company did not advertise at all, and were still never able to fully meet demand. In that period, they also made about the best product they ever made, at reasonable prices. The company? Smith & Wesson.

I personally love the pics on SA website. They certainly aren't fancy, but most times it's a no BS visual of what they are selling without the pretty clutter which won't be coming with the gun anyway.

Dr. Lunde is still my favorite photographer though :D

If you don't like the main stream Zines, have you ever seen "Gun List"? I think that's the name of it, used to get it. Came on ordinary paper, pix black and white. Was 40 bucks or so a month back 10 or 15 years ago when I was getting it cause they got all their money from subscribers, no advertizing. This left them free from conflicts on p--sing off advertizers. It was rare that they actually LIKED a firearm or product. ROFLMAO! I mean, they'd come out and lambast some standards like Pythons or lots of S&W stuff. I remember one GOOD review of the new Weaver scopes I read and was looking for a scope at the time, so bought one for my M7 stainless. They weren't wrong, danged good glass for under 200 bucks. I was and still am impressed with it. You can get your booty if they like it, it's GOOD! LOL Lots of stuff they didn't like particularly that I thought was great, sorta like this BBS, eh? :neener:

Depending on the market where one competes, day rates for photography run $1500.00/day and up. If you're working in NY where overhead is huge, one could easily compete with 3-5 grand per day with a 4 hour (1/2 day) minimum for product illustration. But realize that this is usually a small percentage of the cost of getting a printed piece into circulation. Editorial rates are usually lower, but the top rate shooter will still command a fee that maxes out the budget of a pub.

You can bet it is added in the price , when they do pricing they figure in what they paid for advertising.

Go to www.hbeleatherworks.com and click on CZ Wallpaper on the left hand side. CZ not only took wonderful "wallpaper" shots of their guns but had the politically incorrect idea of women and guns........all are fabulous pictures.

Ive collected these over the years and have all of them as far as I know of.

If you double click on them...youll get the full size versions that are wall paper sized.

Shoot well.
