Not to worry: The Sole Decider will veto the thing if it ever reaches his desk.
Uh...hold it...didn't he say...never mind.

Well, being that there are 435 members of the house, 30 is still a relatively small number.

Also, look down through the list. It's the "usual suspects" that sign on to ANYTHING that might get their names in the paper.

And look at the list LAR posted. That was 94 sponsors for HR1312, which is the crap she introduced back in 2005. You can expect 1022 to get roughly the same number I expect.

It's bad that there are 30, but I'm trying to find a glimmer of hope still.

Keep the pressure on your Reps.

Who has a list of the actual 30? LAR-15's list is the one from 2005.

govtrack and the other sites don't show much since it is still in committee.

You can find the current list (with contact info for the co-sponsors) in the tacked thread H.R. 1022 Discussion Only. Currently the bill has 30 co-sponsors (including 8 House Judiciary Committee members, all of whom co-sponsored it in 2005 as well).

The bill has not been put on the Judiciary committee schedule yet (at least as far as the public schedule on the website; but that is often updated only a day or two in advance).

Thanks for the list, I wasn't paying attention.

Hmm, how come they all have D behind their name?

Where are you guys that were screaming before the election that D didn't necessarily mean Anti?

It still doesn't necessarily mean anti. There are, what, 200 or so names with a D suffix that aren't on that list, right?

the moral of the story is that we need to keep on top of this, but we also need to not panic. Keep pressure on your reps, but don't wig out unless this moves out of committee.

Don't worry, Biker. As you well know, he is secretly maneuvering behind the scenes to ensure that this will never get to him. This is all part of his brilliant plan.

Sorry, I was interpreting what you typed literally.

A D isn't necessarily an anti, based on the list of 30 cosponsors. But based only on that list, an anti is automatically a D.

This may be a little hard for some folks, but...

Send your congresscritter a note, just a short thing, not a novel, especially if you have a Democrat and especially if they're on that list.

Do not use this word for word - make up your own, or else it looks like it's a concerted effort.

Dear Congresscritter,

I'm worried that if we concentrate on issues like gun control, which have hurt us with hunters and the like in the past, we could end up losing elections and the opportunity to focus on more important social issues. I think we should stay quiet about the controversy, and concentrate on the elections.

Sincerely,

U. Pseudodem

I think we should stay quiet about the controversy, and concentrate on the elections.

That tactic scares hell out of me.

Why would we want them to hide their true intentions BEFORE an election only to come get us AFTER once they win.

Sorry, I can't buy into that one in any form.

I wrote my congresscritter. He wrote back and said he was highly offended at being called a "congresscritter." So I wrote him back and told him that I was told to address him that way in a forum called "The High Road."

Did I do something wrong?

Well Bush did say he'd sign the old one if it was renewed (knowing it would not pass congress then), but this is much worse than that one, so, he could say if he does veto it that it is too extensive, as an excuse if the issue is raised by anti-gun people when he does veto it. I think we should all send a message to him to veto it in case it does pass. Starting a big letter or email campaign this early on it would show how serious we are about this I think. Even though I know he likely could care less what we think and will do whatever he or his advisors want.

somebody mentioned that we shouldn't panic.

Unfortunately, it seems some gun dealers are taking advantage of this opportunity to scare people into buying. I won't name names, but in a large number of replies regarding online quotes for some various things (AR's, Glocks, etc), it was mentioned about how I need to put in my order now because there is a huge waiting list due to the "strong likelihood" (or something like that - varies email to email) of a new AWB and that any day now could be the last to take advantage of not only price, but the ability to buy at all.

Again - I won't name names - but those dealers know who they are - and using scare tactics isn't cool. :scrutiny:
