What's your favorite 1911 that you own?

SharpsDressedMan - you have a holy grail! those pre-war A1s are the sexiest of the sexy- finely made by the best gunsmiths the great depression could buy, the factory scroll work is exquisite! they are the finest fit and finish!, if only the metallurgy was up to modern standards they would outclass even the original 70 series :)

It's currently the only one I own... so it's my favorite by default...

My Colt Gold Cup Trophy is my baby. It is a shame that I use it only for match shoots and is pretty much a safe queen. Beautiful 1911. My go every where, is a Springfield V-10 Ultra Compact in stainless and rests in my Bianchi holster. That is one sweet combination. It is honestly no wonder that once a gun lover gets into shooting the 1911, they always end up owning one or two. (Or three, or - - -) You know what I mean. My wife is small build, just over the 100 pound mark and loves shooting .45. She has convinced more than one new female shooter to try it and she is still bragging them up. (Plus she is really GOOD with it!)

Springfield LW Champion Operator with a bob job and Via Con Dios grips. I also put a Gold bead front sight on it.

My Springfield Full Rail Custom Shop Operator.

There is hardly any recoil when shooting this gun. It's in 9mm. Had an 11 month wait to get it from the custom shop.

Normally, I get faigued after shooting 200-250 rounds of 9mm. Hands aren't that steady after that.

I shot 300 rounds on my last trip with this gun, and I could have shot 300 more if I had brought more ammo!

1. Springfield Armory 4" Champion model, .45ACP

Yes, I did post a range review - let me copy and paste it below....

Ok, I just got back from the range. I put 300 rounds thru the gun.

200 Blazer Brass
50 CCI Blazer Aluminum
50 WWB

Let me start by saying the gun is TIGHT!. George at Gunslingers commented on that - it is tighter than the Nighthawks he sells. It is hard to get the slide to move when pulling it back. And, usually you have to push the slide from the back for it to close - it sticks about 1/8" of an inch.

So, I had George and a local smith who was my FFL transfer tell me that I'd likely have to break it in.

Sure enough - everything fed fine - but the slide wasn't completely closing. I would have to push it closed just a tiny bit.

I kept at it, and was astounded by the accuracy and lack of recoil. It's like a laser gun.

As I kept shooting, I'd have to push the slide closed manually less and less often.

At about the 200 round mark - this stopped completely. From rounds 200-300, not a single issue.

Very tight 1911s routinely have to be broken in - so a 200 round breakin is no big deal.

The weight and lack of recoil on this gun is very noticeable. Usually after 100 rounds of 45 ACP (shot during 1 continuous period), my hands get the shakes. 150 rounds of 45 is all I usually do in 1 session.

And, I usually quit at 200 rounds of 9mm at 1 session.

Not an issue with this gun. I went to 300 rounds, and my hands were steady as ever. I could have kept going, but I only wanted to shoot 300 rounds (actually, I only wanted to shoot 250, and I brought 1 extra box in case I had issues with the aluminum cased rounds - I didn't, but kept going anyway :p )

The recoil on this gun is very low. I even had people come comment on my groups. I didn't save any targets, but I put rounds thru the same hole or touching many, many times.

So, after all the wait time and wondering if I was spending a bit too much money or not... Now that I got to shoot it, I love this gun!

Right now my favorite is my COLT Combat Elite.

ColtCombatElite.jpg

It's my favorite for what it represents.

I see COLT selling this pistol because they finally wised up and started taking what people wanted to buy. It very closely resembles what so many of us 1911 owners wanted and asked COLT to build for nearly 10yrs. :banghead: A modern featured, high quality COLT 1911 that is the equal of anything in it's price range.

I saw a new COLT Special Combat Govt (NS) recently.... Many people dislike front slide serations on a carry gun.... Seems to me like COLT heard that loud and clear. Maybe later this year I'll have a new "favorite 1911".

Captn Mac & Fetus -

I also have that same Electro Nickle w/blue control's 70 Series. Mines a hungry old bugger. Loves to eat the X Ring out every target I point it at.

STI Trojan with a fitted Ed Brown bushing. I actually shot it as well as my Baer (this is not to say it groups as well, only that both guns shot the same for me) and it has been flawlessly reliable.

I sent it bsck to Springer Custom Shop to bob it and do an action job (4lbs) along with recrowning the barrel and checkering the frontstrap at 30lpi. It cost just over $400 due to the refinish and was well worth it.

Which 1911

Like how the Champion points and handles, shorter & lighter, but the TRP Operator shoots better. Choices, Choices......

My STI Trojan was my first 1911 and is still my favourite. Its VERY accurate with the handloads I'm using at the moment.
