Hunter thanks for that information. Very Cool. I haven't seen those synthetic wood grips before. They are nice looking, more durable than the wood, and from my observations, not very common. I also didn't realize that Houlton made any 422s.

Does your box still have the original label with matching serial number? I'd be interested in seeing that label info. I wonder if there were differences in models manufactured for sale outside the US?

Nice 422 there Hunter.

Glad to see so many other happy owners out there.
It did had a label attached via a piece of rope. But I did cut it off unfortunately.

The label I'm talking about would be stuck to the box itself. Usually on an edge, but I've seen it stuck to the inside of the box under the foam on a plastic one.

Okay, you are right. There is a label on the box. It was partially removed however. But the product code and serial number is still on the part that is not removed.

I see you have a lot of love for these pistols:)
Can't you or someone else here pleaaaaase help me with a silencer adapter? I will pay double what the going rate is at EWKARMS. If someone can only send it to me. It is not illegal to post this I'm sure, therefore I don't know why no shop wants to sell me one.
In my country silencers are 100% legal. I have one on my .22 rifle allready. It is just a threaded adapter. I can have my local gunsmith make me one but then the pistol will be in the shop for a few months. That is too long to be without her:D

I don't know why EWK won't ship to you, but I suspect it is for good reason. Perhaps somebody familiar with exporting gun parts will be able to explain.

Soliciting for someone to help you skirt any laws would be against forum rules. I'd suggest editing your previous post so it doesn't sound like that's what you were asking, before a mod gets involved. I'm sure that's not what you meant.

Thanks for the advice. I never suggested anything illegal:) I want to leave my post as is as it might give me some answers. I mean I can order magazines from Brownels, if they had in stock. That I feel is a much more of a ''risk'' than a mere adapter? Lets hear form others, I really want this part:evil:

Factory made on 2206?

Question. I recently picked up another 2206. After looking at my two 2206 next to each other I noticed one was made in Houlton and other in Springfield. Does anyone know the reason why? and if one factory was known for better quality or more sought after than the other? Thanks

The later guns were made in Houlton. There hasnt been much talk of one being better that the other.

The most obvious difference I've observed is that Springfield guns seem to come in the cardboard boxes, while Houlton guns come in the blue plastic hard case. I can't say that is true in all cases, just an observation.

I'd ask you to look at one part in particular. Remove the slide and check the recoil spring guide rod that the spring slides over. Are they both metal? I have seen a VR that was only made in Houlton and it had a plastic or polymer guide rod.

I don't know if this is unique to the VR's, or if it's something Houlton used on different models.

If anyone else reading this has a recoil spring guide rod made of plastic, please post up what model gun it's on. I'm really curious as to why S&W would have changed the material of that part. Cost savings is the obvious guess, but I wonder if it might have been for a more technical reason? Weight savings maybe, but why? Since the VR's were all made the last year of production, maybe it has something to do with the transition to the 22a's at the plant. I find it very interesting that they would have changed that part.

Appreciate insight Weblance and interesting point Slidemuzik about recoil springs possibly being different.

Baldwin, please post the answer when you check the two recoil spring guide rods and let us know if they are they same.

I have seen three differences in the recoil spring guide rods on different models. Bare metal, blued metal, and plastic.

I'd be interested in hearing what others are seeing on their guns. I've never had a 422 apart to see.

Slidemuzik is it possible to check the recoil spring rods without taking whole gun apart? True be told I have never take either one of my 2206 apart nor would I, I would rather pay a professional my Gunsmith skills are rookie level. Atleast I can admit it lol Thanks

Baldwin I speak as a person who didn't grow up shooting. I had to learn everything as an adult from other shooters, so I understand how the idea of taking parts off the gun can be intimidating. The thought of having to take the walk of shame to the gunsmith with parts that I could not reassemble into a working firearm prevented me from trying it for way too long. This won't happen here. Youtube.com is your friend in this case.

There is a difference between "field stripping" and disassembly. Complete disassembly is not recommended unless you are qualified.

Field stripping is the process used to remove the slide, which will be necessary to easily and properly clean your pistol. IMO every owner should know this procedure. It is easy to learn and do. I promise.

I am linking a series of short how to videos from youtube. The first I think has the best camera work and shows how it's done with the tool that was included. If you don't have the tool you can use a spent casing or other suitable thing you can find. You'll understand when you watch the videos. I am also linking a photocopy of the manual for the pistol. Pages 10-13 have the diagrams and covers the procedure. http://stevespages.com/pdf/s&w_rimfire_pistols.pdf

A word of caution; don't dry fire this pistol as you see some do. S&W warns against it because it can damage the firing pin. There are a number of people who found out the hard way and have had to replace the firing pins. They are available from EWK, but S&W doesn't sell them anymore from what I've read. If you need to decock this pistol you have a couple of options.
1. Use a snap cap. A properly sized plastic wall anchor works well. Maybe 5 bucks for a box of 100. You could also use a spent casing but when the hammer strikes the empty shell, it's going to knock burnt powder into the gun. It is also a safety issue because it opens the possibility of pulling the trigger on a live round if you make a mistake of misidentifying an empty shell in the chamber. Safety First.
2. You can pull the slide back just enough to drop the hammer but far enough the pin doesn't strike the breach face. Maybe the thickness of a credit card or so is all we're talking. If you pull the slide too far the hammer won't drop.

If after watching these videos you still have questions, contact me and I'll walk you through it. Confidence will make you a better shooter. Learning this procedure will build your confidence and may actually translate into you being a better shot. Your gun will be happier too.
Good Luck, here are the videos.

springrods reply

SlideMuxik thats for help and links. It was alittle less intimidating than I thought with only hiccup being it took a couple minutes to realize the spacer was not just to hold slide open but needed to depress spring rod just enough so top cap would come off. After that it was breeze just following your links. So both of rods are metal even though from 2 separate factories Houlton and Springfield. I have attached pictures Thanks again I was a since of accomplishment lol

I bought a 422 back in the mid-80s, just because I liked the way it looked. It was mostly an impulse buy - at the time I only shot bullseye, and it was pretty much useless for that at the level at which I was competing then. Kept it a few months and sold it.

Baldwin, congratulations. Glad I could help and hope this helps others. It really is easy once you see how it's done. In my opinion, WAY easier than the Ruger standard pistol. Youtube has been so helpful in teaching technical info.

Barrel nut for a 2206

Hi new to the forum
Does anyone know where I can get the "stock" barrel nut for a 2206? Mine has the adapter on it and I think I'd like it better with just the nut.I've looked on Numrich,Midway,Brownells and ebay,,,no luck. Or does anyone know were I can get the tap, I can make my own.Its an odd size tap.
Thanks

I would like to join :). Ordered a 422 today (4.5" fixed sights). Should be here in a couple of days

TennJed... did you grab that 422 that was on GunsAmerica? That was a good deal. I watched that one, and decided I didnt need another 422, but I sure thought about it.

I am glad you didn't want it cause it is the one I got. Saw it last night for $249 and almost pulled the trigger. Check it this afternoon and the price was dropped to $200. I grabbed it up. He charges $30 shipping and my guy charges $30 so I am in it for $260 total. The blueing looks almost perfect. Doesn't look much used at all. If it shoots straight I got a heck of a deal :)

Hi guys, do anyone have a photo of a once fired bullet case? I just want to see how deep etc must the firing pin hit the rim.
Reason is I suspect me 422 does not strike it as hard or as deep as it should. With CCI ammo I get 100% no problems. But with a lot of other ammo I get a FTF. But when I shoot the same ammo in my CZ452 rifle, I experience no FTF ever.

Do these guns have a rep for light primer strikes. Almost everything I have read about them has been good
