I drop one or two speed strips in my pocket when I leave the house. I know if I switched to speed loaders I'd never actually carry them because of the bulk.
I practice at the range with the speed strips, but as others have said they aren't speedy. I've always been of the opinion that if 6...
I switched to appendix carry because I tried several guns and 3x times that holsters in the IWB position from 3:30-4:30 and no matter what ended up with back pain after an hour or two. I tried thick leather gun belts and thick nylon carry belts with a core, didn't matter.
The smallest guns...
I got mine before prices jumped, at the time it was similar in cost to a S&W 640 but you get 6 rounds with the Kimber vs 5 with a S&W or Ruger sp101. But they have gotten crazy expensive over the past 4 years, they've come down a little the past year but IMO are still overpriced. It's a great...
The places you listed are good places to look, if you have time sometimes they have good sales (my local hardware store often has good Black Friday sales on safes).
I'll echo Night Rider's comment. I was in 24-gun safe territory but found a 42-gun safe on Craigslist for the same price and 12...
I've tried several different guns and holsters and belts carrying between 3:30-4:30 IWB and no matter what my back starts to hurt after an hour. But no back pain even with a cheap webbed belt when carrying AIWB.
I also have a mental block when carrying a semi auto in the appendix location...
The second handgun I bought was a USP 45. I SO wanted to love the gun but I couldn't shoot it very well. I also owned a Glock 23 that I couldn't shoot well but stubborn me blamed the guns. Sold the HK to a buddy who brought his ex-marine force recon brother. His brother put a small water...
I used Eva-dry for years but you NEED to get on a schedule because they fill up fast. I found too often I wasn't opening my safe often enough to recharge it, rendering it basically useless. I switched to a golden rod several years ago. With most of my guns I never had much of an issue with...
I used to use a lot of Remoil 20+ years ago. For the most part it was fine but my parkerized 870 Express always struggled with corrosion. I've since switched to Eezox and it does better at rust protection.
I still keep an old container of Remoil in my range bag "just in case" but I don't...
My safe was full last year so I switched to rifle rods. It gave me another 40% of space and I'm happy with the system, no more removing 5 guns to get to the 6th in the back! At most I only have to remove 2 to get to the back row now.
I don't use gun socks.
I made such statements that I had a good backstop AND uninhabited land behind me. Same with my uncle. It's an extra level of safety, even if the land isn't mine.
I certainly sympathize with anyone confused. When I picked this one up I remember digging through the available information to find out anything I could, and I was surprised at the different names, styles, and changes through the 30 year run of the Standard/MKI.
No, but aside from trappers and the natives I doubt many people relied primarily on hunting to feed themselves. Even the frontiersman living past the edge of "society" were almost always farmers who raised crops and had some livestock to feed themselves and their families who still made regular...
It'll depend on if you're shooting rimfire, handguns, or centerfire rifle.
I have 3 acres and felt comfortable shooting .22's and handguns but I had a good backstop made of logs to stop those projectiles and there was a mile of uninhabited mature woods behind my house. I shot .223 once and saw...
I picked up a 3" 942 almost 3 years ago. I had to shim the rear sight screw because it was letting the sight drift left and right but after that it's been a phenomenal gun. I had purchased a S&W 17-3 around the same time and have since sold the 17. I know the Smith's are great guns but I...
I don't avoid FFL's because of form 4473. Now before I had my CCW I did occasionally avoid buying from gun dealers because I hated the 10 minute wait for the background check, and for about 5 years I'd get put on a hold and have to wait 3 days about 25% of the time.
Also, what often seems like...
If you're asking me, I tried carrying IWB behind the waist belt for a day. My lumbar pack is relatively light, probably less than 10 lbs loaded with fishing gear and my hip bone hurt from the extra pressure after just a few hours. A backpacking pack will be more like 30-40 lbs it'd be pretty...
Great information, I'm glad Ruger is continuously improving this model and not leaving it for dead. I carried an LCP for 10 years before it finally died and Ruger replaced it in 2019 with a Gen 2 (not LCP II). If this one ever dies I'll buy another original LCP again.
I wanted to share my solution. Generally when backpacking and hiking I keep an LCP in my pocket because it's lightweight and is out of the way from a pack's waist band. But I wade-fish quite a bit, getting into chest-deep water and never liked the gun being constantly underwater in silty...
