I wouldn't have a "budding gunsmith" even if he were a neighbor work on it. I'd recommend sending to a well established Springfield smith work on it and have a new National Match barrel dropped onto it.
There are a handful of them and other vintage Al Mars currently on ebay, several on AZCK, a couple on All About Pocket Knives, and I'm sure others elsewhere. Without good enough pics it can be challenging to tell if any are counterfeit.
I've handled several Civil War fakes and theres a whole high end fake Bowie world (the Collins knife is sadly one of those).
There are fake modern knives, fake vintage knives, fake pre war and Civil War and pre Civil War fakes because there's money in them. Some are good fakes, some pretty bad...
Maybe or maybe not if it is dull or it breaks and the other guy's doesn't have those problems. I've seen improperly sharpened knives slide off a practice dummy and I've seen improperly heat treated ones bend or snap.
Welllll, it is supposed to be a new in box unused knife that is a collectable so use is kinda not relevant since most collectors wouldn't use a collectable knife.
Since it is a counterfeit you can't know the quality and, frankly, since it is a fighting knife most people won't be using it for...
I'm not telling her anything about it. Widow... husband's knife. She has no idea what an Al Mar is or even that knives are counterfeited. She won't end up selling it and it will disappear into a tub.
The last few teeth aren't consistent.
The "chop" has parts connected that aren't in the real chop.
The L in AL MAR is not a sharp angle.
The "made in" is on the wrong side.
The problem with electronic ear buds that I've seen and tried is they don't insert into the ear canal deeply enough and they don't have to meet the ANSI or OSHA requirements. I wish they worked as well as properly inserted foam plugs, but they're never going to be able to come close because of...
Yep, but comes with NFA controversy "baggage" that that will have to be decided by the courts since most don't add it as an arm brace. Complicated issue, but makes for fun PC PDWs.
In the recoil absorbing AR configuration, the brace is superfluous for recoil management, but beneficial for sighting. Before braces we just popped a tennis ball on the end of the buffer tube. Not as efficient for cheek weld as a brace, but sufficiently comfortable to shoulder.
You're correct, there's no indication that city attorneys make any ammunition recommendations to local LE. Pricing, followed by reliability, is the decision point for local law enforcement.
Also, agreed, 10mm is a fine defensive handgun round.
