You could, with the right bullet, out to say 50yds. Not ideal but certainly adequate in a survival situation.

I wouldn't hesitate to use them. I called them a couple months ago about a 77/22 barrel and they quoted me two weeks. Could be they didn't have enough 1911 business to keep full time staff for that purpose.
