I'm also getting to that downsizing stage. Having been a collector/shooter for much of my adult life, it's seems like I've either owned or shot most everything out there. Unfortunately, there's really not much to get excited about any more.
It really has gotten to the point where I'd like to...
Good advice above. I will echo that a compact .40 is a tough gun to learn on. in my experience you'd be much better off with a 9mm as you learn to shoot.
Much of learning to shoot is managing the sound in your ears and the movement of your hands. I learned to deal with these factors by...
For those few times when pocket carry is the best or only alternative, I'd recommend a S&W 642. For me, this makes sense based on the weight savings, ability to fire while still in the pocket, and the expected reliability that a 642 offers.
Pocket carrying an auto would not be my first choice.
If you prefer DA/SA you'd be hard pressed to find more reliable weapons that the two HKs you have listed. I have a P30L, and while it's not my carry gun it is the most accurate 9mm I've ever owned. And I've owned a bunch.
If reliability is important and your round count estimate is accurate...
I've owned all flavors of Glock except the .357 sig. I still own the 29 and the 36. I'd have to say that I enjoy the 36 more as it's a versatile carry gun and therefore more useful. Surprisingly accurate too!
I just sold a TZ-75 that I've had in the safe for years and still have some .41 AE ammo that I never used. I have 6 boxes (of 50) of the original Uzi brand, and 100 rounds of Gray Area ammo that I bought several years ago. Does anyone know the value of this ammo in today's marketplace?
I...
I suggest you check some of the aution/sale boards like GunsAmerica, Gunbroker and Auction Arms. That should give you a pretty good idea of the current pricing.
I recently paid $895 for mine NIB. I thought that was a good price.
Never fear, .357 compacts are still being manufactured. In fact, in 2004 HK will be introducing the full-size USP in .357 SIG as well.
If you have experience shooting handguns you'll find the compact easy to shoot and extremely accurate. And like all HKs, they're built to last. I highly...
Man, you guys are far too encouraging. I can feel my wallet getting lighter by the minute! It looks like I'm not the only one who finds it hard to resist a short barrel N frame.
What's a guy to do?
...I'm not a reloader so that's a concern. I have a 629 3" and a 29 4" and don't find the recoil objectionable (unless we're talker 300 grainers or above) in 44 mag, but don't have any experience with a .45 colt.
Other than the fact that it's about as practical as T*ts on a bull, what do you...
