Did a bigger test shoot today using Ram Shot Competition in 38 special with a MBC 148 grain DEWC and Unis Ginex SP primers. Attached target shot with a S&W Model 14 6 inch barrel 150 rounds on the target at 15 yards. I am really impressed with Ramshot Competition.
After reading all these posts I know now why I went back to using just lead bullets I have been through all this with plated and poly/Hi Tek coated bullets . All I do is tumble commercially cast bullets with LLA let them set overnight and the next night dust them with mica powder. Works very...
Just got done reloading 4-50 round boxes of 40 S&W with 4 different powders being Blue Dot, W244 , Ramshot Competition and Ramshot Silhouette, Unis Ginex SP primer and a MBC 140 grain LFP.. one of these will be my go to powder for 40 I only used Blue Dot because I only have about a quarter of a...
I would first contact S&W about your CSX and the trigger issue I have a 686 that had the same problem contacted them they sent me a prepaid mailing label. Sent it back to them and when I got it back the trigger was beautiful but if you just don’t like the CSX get the Equalizer for a little over...
I had pretty much same problem you experienced with Fiocchi but at the time I was just glad to have primers. I am currently using Unis Ginex SP& LP primers and have not had one failure to fire , like you I do find they are a little softer. I am going to keep using them until domestic ones...
I used to overpay for guns I then stopped doing it because I had bought one and a week later I found the same one locally for $300.00 less .. I was so angry with myself that I had rushed into buying it that I have never done it again, but as my father used to say To each his own.
I always wondered what the difference was between the two brasses I have never been able to get a good explanation on it . I bought a NOE PTX expander die for 38 special but quit using it as I was having problems with it getting stuck in the case now I understand why. I may have to try it...
Take a look at TK Custom they do a lot of revolver work and are very reputable I use there moon clips and some of there other products. I have never had a problem with them.
You are correct Model 14’s have very tight tolerances mine is the same way some .358 DEWC bullets are tight in it that is why I use Precision Delta LHBWC bullets. I have a set of pin gauges when I measured my cylinder on my Model 14 it was a tight .357 inches it is why they are so accurate.
I shoot a lot of 38 special long barrels and short,, if you want a soft shooting load get some 148 grain LHBWC or DEWC bullets and some faster burning powder like Bullseye , Ram Shot Competition , AA#2 or any equivalent W231 and W244 work well also. This will give you a very nice shooting load...
I have used VV powder in 38 special but it was N320 it works fine you might want try N310 or N320 for 38 special ,,from my experience they shoot
better with a faster powder. You load is not to hot , I have attached this from VV’s reloading app if you don’t have it download it I think it is one...
I have a 625-6 Model of 1989 5 inch barrel that was given to me by my father in law before he passed away . I don’t use moon clips just 45 auto rimmed brass it is extremely accurate I did have a 625 JM but sold it for a lot more than I paid for it. You would love either of these they are great...
Had it happen to me once I did not tighten the thumb wheel all the way but thought I did fine grained powder pours out like water we all make mistakes, we are human it just happens.
