cock the hammer veeeery slowly with your thumb, and notice that second click when the cylinder stop drops into the cylinder. It should happen before the hammer cocks. Sometimes (such as on my S&W .357) the timing is a little off, and that second click doesn't happen before it cocks on one or...
Touro,
The great thing about the gun you bought is its versatility. .38 spl. is a very nice round to shoot, from standard velocity target rounds up through +p, which is nothing to sneeze at. Don't ever let anyone tell you .38 spl. is lame–it ain't.
I would recommend you start with .38 spl...
Seems pretty clear to me that the 7.62x51 is just about the perfect round for maximum lethality, accuracy and manageability. It's capable of major hydrostatic shock as well as damage to hard targets, engine blocks and the like.
+1 on that. Start with the basics, beginning with safety, and go from there.
get to know your weapons, and ALWAYS clear them before handling.
May I recommend reloading? A great way to get deeper into the sport, and very safe and satisfying if you do it right.
It's a very individual...
+1 NG-VI
I went through this with an H&K USP .45–after some research, the consensus seemed to be the following: go ahead and shoot hard cast (not soft lead!) bullets out of polygonal barrels, but keep a closer eye on lead build-up than you might with standard rifling. The concern is that the...
Dry Fire + strength exercizes
I have no need for extensive live fire practice with this dry-fire regimen:
—pure finger control shots, eyes closed, gun pointed at the floor
—gun leveled at blank wall, again, mainly finger control
—bullseye practice; I flip the paper around and aim at the faint...
I'll tell you what–if I were to get rid of all but one, this would be the one I'd keep. m66-1
I agree with this sentiment: "If you can't get the job done with 5 or 6 shots from a .38 special, there's a slim chance you can get it done with 10 or 15 shots from anything else."
You've received a lot of conflicting views–take it all with a grain of salt. I have an S&W model 66-1 that does the same thing yours does on a couple cylinders. It's GOOD to be that aware of your gun, for obvious reasons. But don't freak about it. Keep an eye on it, and enjoy your gun.
...full sized autos and revolvers, and I'm quite accurate with them. Using this gun w/ 90 grain FMJ PMC ammo, I didn't feel like I could hit s#@*. I know I need to tone down my expectations somewhat, but it's gotta get better than this. Suggestions? Better ammo? Closer range (I was shooting from...
