Never understood why folks did that. For the same or a bit more a decent smith will not only replace your barrel with one of better quality but also face the receiver, grind the lug parallel (or replace it), lap the lugs and chamber it to minimum headspace.

Flame cutting of the top strap is self limiting. At some depth of erosion it gets to a point where the gas pressure and flame temp have no effect any longer.
Interestingly I have yet to see any notices on Badger Barrels web site or elsewhere that it has been sold and will be moved to Illinois.
They have apparently a few months to finish off the orders they have and then its off to make paint ball gun barrels.
