My nightstand gun is a Gen 3 Glock 23, I like the size and capacity for this role and the .40 is a solid stopper without being a ridiculous over-penetration risk.

For .22 I'll go with my Dan Wesson 22 with it's 6" barrel: dead accurate and a great gun for target and small game. Very heavy, but I can deal with that.
