    combat revolver: what's your ideal?

Combat revolvers... S&W M649 .38 S&W M681 .357 Ruger SP101 .357 Taurus 431 .44 Special The 649 and the SP101 trade off for the off-duty carry gun. The 681 is mostly a range shooter, but also does some home defense. Primary home defense revolver is the Taurus 431. All my combat...

    Who carries a S&W 649 everyday?

My 649 is my favorite off-duty gun. I carry it all the time. I have an older one chambered in .38 Special and it'll do the job. Bob

    Which Colt SAA

I don't know the answer to your question, but you might want to go over the the Frontier Sixshooter Message Board and post that question. The gents over there have forgotten more about SA revolvers than I will ever know...there are even a few gunsmiths who hang out over there. It's a very...

Why did US LEO's go to semis? Do you want wheelguns back?

In my opinion, I think it depends upon what the individual PO's assignment is. In my last assignment, I was a plainclothes investigator and was assigned to the criminal intelligence unit (I know, oxymoron!!). I was issued a Glock 22 with three hi-cap LE mags for concealed carry. Now, I'm...

    Beretta Tomcat Opinions

Don't know if this helps, but I have a Taurus PT-22 which is totally reliable and a NAA .22 mag with 1 1/8" barrel, both for deep concealment. The NAA rides along when my wife and I go for our evening walks, but so does a folder as well. I had a Tomcat a long time ago, but the J frame does...

Cops....what is your carry peice on duty and off? Why?

On duty, I work in institutions, so don't carry. Off duty, S&W 649, Ruger SP101. The Ruger obviously can transmit more power, but the 649 is smaller, conceals easier and weighs less. Both are good and fit my lifestyle off-duty very well. Haven't found an auto yet that works as well as...

    Favorite "Pocket Rocket "

Like Nero and Randy, I have a Colt 1903 Hammerless which is a thin pistol with little to snag on and a Taurus PT-22, which is an excellent small, reliable pistol. Upgrades are a S&W 649 or a Ruger SP101. All of them work great, even the old 1903, which is really a neat pistol... Bob

    S&W Autos?

S&W Autos At the risk of sounding heretical, my 645 is my favorite large-bore pistol. It is large in size, that is true, but it is also accurate, the trigger is smooth, it feeds, fires, extracts and ejects everything I load into it and the mass of the gun really helps with recoil (which is why...

Next time you buy "Cheap" ammo ....

9mm Mak squib Hi guys. I'm the shooter of that squib load. The load was 95-grain Barnaul JHP in 9mm Makarov. The gun was a Feg PA-63, essentially an aluminum-framed Walther PP copy in 9mm Mak. Prior to this event, I had purchased about 500 rounds of the same ammo and discovered that it...

Who carries a gun to church?

Carry in church... Do so virtually every Sunday, usually a 649 or SP101 ankle-carried. As far as I can see from Scripture, it is my duty to protect innocent persons from oppressors, including anyone who would harm my family or members of the congregation. Bob

We had a special guest at the range...

Sorry, been out of town again. Well, I'm glad we had this discussion. You guys have definitely changed my outlook so that I now understand the rules. Here they are: 1. Cops are fascists/Praetorian Guards whose sole purpose is to keep the "civilians in line". They serve no other purpose...

We had a special guest at the range...

OK, I guess I'm not done. No, Lendsringer, respectfully, it's because neither you nor anyone else would be able to stand in front of those folks and make an argument that body-armor piercing ammunition should be available to the general public knowing that criminals could obtain such ammo...

We had a special guest at the range...

And now you understand how the anti-gunners have been able to insert a wedge between law-abiding gun owners and cops, a relationship which was, in the past, a very strong one. Let's argue absurdity and insist on owning any damn thing we please and the consequences be damned. I wonder if...

    Walther PPK .32 -- Opinions?

First of all, my apologies-I've been out of town and just got back today, so have not responded timely. My mistake-they're Eagle Grips, not Secret Service grips. They're made of Indian rosewood and are very nice-looking on the Walther. Here's the link...

We had a special guest at the range...

Sorry-didn't mean to start a gun ban discussion. Also sorry about the delay in response. I've been out of town most of the week. I'm not against the gun. I'm also not worried about law-abiding folks shooting me, either with this round or any other. Making jokes about shooting a cop in the...

    Walther PPK .32 -- Opinions?

I just got a Manurhin PP and shot it last weekend. It did fine with MagTech 71-grain JHP and with ball. I did not like the bakelite grips, so I got a set of Secret Service rosewood grips for it. It looks much better with those. So far, so good. Bob

We had a special guest at the range...

El, the Soviet .22 is the subject of this column and Justin is the one who brought up the issue about my concern regarding that particular round after I stated merely that it was OK with me that the round is not available here. You're right. There are other handgun rounds which will defeat...

We had a special guest at the range...

I'm sorry, Justin-I guess I wasn't specific enough. As a guy who has to wear Kevlar on occasion, I'm not real fond of the idea that there a round designed for use in a highly concealable handgun which will penetrate my body armor at close range. In fact, my understanding is that this...

We had a special guest at the range...

I know we'll never get it here in the original Russian bottleneck cartridge chambering, because of the round's ability to penetrate Kevlar (and I'm OK with that, personally), but I'd sure like to get it chambered in .32 ACP with clip-grip arrangement. That's a nice-sized, skinny gun perfect for...
