That's what I understand.

My understanding is that the one killed was one of the CCW'ers attempting to intervene. A lady I went to high school with was there when it happened, I'm hearing about it on Facebook.

You just have to be a little discreet, you'd be surprised what people never notice. We have open carry here, and the general attitude about firearms is very relaxed...it's not going to be construed as brandishing.

For what you're going to do with it, a budget AR will do just fine. The S&W is a good deal, no assembly required, and a warranty if something needs fixing. Open sights are great, but a low power scope or a red dot sight make it even better. Look at the red dots at Primary Arms.

Tank bag. You can't much use it while you're riding, so no need to have it on your person, and it presents an injury risk if you go down. When I stop I simply get the handgun out of the tank bag and drop it in my holster and go about my business.
