    Having a hard time deciding.

I'm wanting to get a conversion revolver to play with BP cartridges (and also finally have a revolver to shoot smokeless loads indoors). But I've only got ~$500 to play with. I love the style of the old open top colts. I already have a walker and an 1860. I cant touch the 1860, but I can...

Can I use old lead balls?

Heck, I wouldnt even mind shooting in the rain, but underwater is decidedly less preferrable.

Can I use old lead balls?

Unfortunately I had to hang it up before I even got started. My local outdoor range (Elm Fork) is STILL underwater from the last flood. So no dice. Maybe in a couple of months.

Can I use old lead balls?

Merry Christmas guys! I am considering hitting the outdoor range tomorrow and shooting my colts that I haven't had out in probably a year or so. I have probably half a box of hornady .454 lead balls that I pulled out of my black powder box and they're coated in a fined even coat of lead...

    .223/5.56 for home defense

I am weary of the same, which is why when I eventually do go hunting, I've purchased a .308. Thought I think .223/5.56 is adequate for small deer if applied correctly, based on anecdotal evidence. What I feel is an important distinction here is that that concern isnt really applicable to the...

Chuck Hawks on Sub-Standard Modern Rifles

Sorry for the wall of text. "Like many old geezers, I bemoan the loss, or lack, of standards in our modern world." - I'd counter this opinion with my own in that the majority of the changes in the "quality" of consumer items in our society is decades long trial and error of finding out what...

    Need help zeroing for meters.

Yeah, whether the rifle is capable of that or not, I'm not expecting that from the irons. Silhouette hits at 200 is good enough for me.

    Need help zeroing for meters.

Hah! I work for airbus helicopters, so I get to enjoy the constant bounce between metric and standard. Metric is so much easier... until I get into a car. Then it's just wrong. I have no problem with learing ballistics in metric and shooting that way is all of the ranges here are in yards.

Oh, maybe it is yards then...

    Need help zeroing for meters.

Also a good point. I won a bunch of reloaded 147gr at my last 3 gun match, so I'll probably use that even if the overall groups probably wont be as tight as the match ammo.

Very good points. I probably am over analyzing it.

    Need help zeroing for meters.

There are some ranges around here (north Texas) that go out that far, but unfortunately none of them will let you shot at those distances unless I can prove it's accurate on the 25yd range first. Getting it close on paper at 25yds isn't a big deal, but with the differents between yards and...

    Need help zeroing for meters.

Yeah I figured as much. I don't imagine the bullet drop will be much different over a 2yd distance difference. Where I get hung up is if I go for a 200yd zero. It should be about 1.25"-1.50" low at 25yds. But then If I take it out to 200yds, I assume that the setting for 200meters will put me...

    Need help zeroing for meters.

Hey guys I need help zeroing the diopter iron sights on my PTR91 for ranges in yards. I understand the process of zeroing sights in general. The problem I am having here is that most of the ballistics data I can find for .308 (specifically HSM 168gr BTHPM) is all in yards. The 0-100, 200, 300 &...

    PTR-91 vs M1A?

I just bought a PTR91 GI model last month and shot it for the first time in a 3 gun match I was working over the weekend on friday. It was rough to operate it when I first got it, but after running a 20rd mag through it during my attempt to sight it in. It smoothed out considerably. Now with...

Not again.......! Feral Hog Control in East Texas

I agree with all of the above. I looks a bit unstable too. You can see it bounce and wobble a bit as it drops. However, it may be marginally more humane than the tannerite one.

Possibly hog hunting later this year.

Yeah, if I take the AR it'll definitely be full of soft points or polymer tips.

Thanks! I've read through your thread 3 or 4 times already over the last couples of years. About halfway through it again right now. :D
