What is the best .357 mag factory ammo for deer, hogs, and carjackers(if need be)

I like those soft lead slugs too. My carry, when I carry, is a .38 snubbie loaded with Remington .38 lswchp + P (they mushroom out big time; don't over penetrate) and have been field proven to be one shot stopping. They work on deer as well. I would never take an open sight shot over 50...

What is the best .357 mag factory ammo for deer, hogs, and carjackers(if need be)

Boy, do I agree with kbbailey! I read some of this heavy hard cast bullet stuff and shake my head. Deer aren't all that hard to kill with good shot placement. I've always used 125 grain hollow points (not soft points) and usually Gold Dots; Starfires once - - - factory loads. They whack 'em...

    Taurus millennium pro

I've bought Sig, Smith & Wesson, CZ, Dan Wesson, Beretta, Star, Rock Island and Taurus - - - the one you're interested in. The Smith 40 jammed continually, and didn't stay around long. The Taurus lasted for 14 rounds at the range and jammed so badly it went back to Taurus with the slide jammed...

What is the best .357 mag factory ammo for deer, hogs, and carjackers(if need be)

I have always loved single action. Used to shoot Cowboy Action with two Vaqueros in .44 mag. Even with the 4 5/8 barrel, one of those was able to stop deer in their tracks; almost anyway. The other Rugers: Hunter, Blackhawk, Redhawk, Super Blackhawk, Super Redhawk. Most people hunt single...

    rossi m851 .38 special. question.

Just a little comment on the WEREGUNNER "FMJ ice pick holes" thing. I see this kind of thing a lot. I don't know where it comes from, but I know for a fact that full metal jacketed bullets wound and kill with high efficiency. No military weapon I ever carried or used was loaded with anything...

    taurus model 94

I bought a Taurus 94 for my wife. I'm a pretty strong guy; and I could barely pull the trigger in double action - - - she couldn't budge it. Sloppy cylinder; Taurus doesn't make different pins - - - so you're stuck with what you get. She loved it anyway, so I took it to my gunsmith, who replaced...

    Disadvantage of .38 in a .357

A steady diet of .38 spl in a .357 cylinder can erode the chambers. Cleaning helps, but a LOT of shooting can do some harm.

    Are all Blackhawks this rough?

I guess not. It seems to shoot OK; I haven't zeroed it, but it works. Some of the milling is rough though - - - just not finished to the standards I'm used to. I wonder if there Will be problems with extended use. I just don't think you should have to re-blue a new gun; regardless what else...

    Are all Blackhawks this rough?

I wrote something on here a few days ago about the fact that the new one I bought was not up to old standards; and got feedback to the tune of 'you don't know what you're talking about' from a couple of people. I have a gunsmith who does my work, and HE said they aren't up to their older...

    New Vaquero vs. Vaquero

The "new" Vaquero is definitely NOT the same the old one. I just bought a "New Model" Blackhawk and it's not the same as the older, better ones either. They have started cutting corners - - - not good. I was over at my gunsmith's today; I wanted to have him drill a hole in that mickey mouse grip...

Is this Vaquero worth it? I need your advice!

I bought two of the old Vaqueros in .44 mag, 4 5/8 when they first came out. Also two in .45; one with a 4 5/8 bbl, the other 7 1/2. They are able to take all the maximum 'Ruger or Freedom Arms only' loads you want to put through them. The .44s eat up top .44 mag loads. They're great guns, and...

    Undergunned with .38 Spl. +p in 2" Model 60?

When I carry, it's a snubbie with Remington 125 gr semi jacketed hollow points. They're hot, expand well and penetrate about 12 inches in wet pack. Golden Sabres (home defense stuff) are dynamic expanders, but don't go deep enough. Big lead bullets aren't as fast as the ideal 125 grain...

Suggestions for first concealed carry gun?

I know what I know. It isn't based on what stats or the literature and labs say - - - it's experience. I've seen what I've seen. In one case a guy shot a big guy in the forehead with a .22 SHORT one time at about 8 yards. The big guy dropped on the spot, never to rise again. If you have a...

Suggestions for first concealed carry gun?

Ditto on personal preference. Just this though: self defense, God forbid, is going to be within 10 yards; for that distance you don't need a hand cannon. And contrary to many opinions seen here and elsewhere - - - anything that punches holes into the Human body can be totally lethal. Believe me...

    questions re 1911A1

Throw the money at him as you run out the door. If that pistol has most of it's original parts - - - you get the picture. Whether or not, you can rebuild any 1911A1.

    Most Reliable 1911

Good shooting? - - - Dan Wesson. I don't even know if you can get one anymore. Kimber - - - good, but when something did go wrong; getting them to take care of it was a nightmare. S & W - OK. Springfield GI models are made in Brazil: may as well get a Taurus. Maybe others are made there too...

Problem- to send back to ruger or not?

I bought a used Vaquero .45 back in 01. It tended to lock up - didn't know why. My dealer sent it back to Ruger and they repaired it and had it back to me in less than two weeks. I had another one that I bought new. After a lot of shooting - - - and I mean a LOT of shooting an cleaning; the...

    Taurus 445 snubby 44 special...

Oh, I didn't say so, but my 817 has a laser grip. I re-read and want to say, that buying a used, old, out of production anything is pretty tricky. Better to get a new one, unless you know who owned it and a little about it's history. A lot of people hot load .44 Specials just like Elmer Keith...

    Taurus 445 snubby 44 special...

Taurus revolvers are basically good guns. I think the autos leave a lot to be desired, but not the revolvers - - - the cylinders are a bit too shaky, but they tend to hold up. I have an original M66 that has seen literally tens of thousands of rounds fired through it. I've had to retire it now...

    Running out of scope adjustment.

It's probably the mounting - get the scope remounted, new rings, and by someone who knows a lot about handgun scopes. Then try it. You should be able to shoot way out there.
