    Striker fired handguns. Why not?

The triggers are not that great, and there's no ability (with rare exception) to control the firing mechanism with a thumb over like on a hammer fired pistol. You can make a striker trigger shorter and lighter, but then you run into potential safety issues. What most people don't realize is that...

Earmuffs and Ear Plugs worn together

I take it you haven't been around USPSA open guns or comp'd rifles when shooting in an indoor range.....or more likely -- you've lost enough of your hearing already that you're simply not aware when muffs or plugs alone are insufficient.

    WIN/USA Forged Steel 9mm Ammo

Wolf is better quality buy than this crap. It’s cheaper too.

Finally picked up a HK P30

Own 5 P30 variants. All have V1 LEM triggers. The V3 trigger is among some of the worst out of the box TDA triggers I've handled, and I shoot almost exclusively TDA or DAO pistols. It's not so bad to the point of being unserviceable, but it's pretty bad comparatively speaking.

    Striker fire carriers.

I used to carry a Glock 19 appendix, but decided several years ago I will no longer carry a striker fired pistol in the appendix position. Strong side OWB, sure, all day long. Many unintentional discharges occur with administrative handling of the pistol - loading, unloading, drawing...

    The Remington RP45

Why does it say "RPus" on the side. What does pus have to do with a pistol?

DA/SA semi autos ... difficult for me

I personally prefer hammer fired pistols and don't mind the DA pull or the transition to SA. Most of my pistols are DA/SA or DAO. Not only do you have the potential for a far superior single action trigger pull compared to striker pistols with DA/SA, both systems affords a larger margin of...

Would you? Remington R51 for $300 new?

Nope. Question is do you want one because you want one, or because you're thinking of using one for serious use (i.e. something other than shooting it more than once or twice a year and stashing it in the sock drawer) I will never suggest not buying something if the honest reason for wanting...

    M&P shield in 45acp or 9mm

Personally I found the Shield 45 to be a surprisingly soft shooting 45. Less perceived recoil than my SIG P220 or Colt M45A1 government size 1911. No kidding. Excellent accuracy and easy to shoot in my hands. I wouldn't bother with the 9mm. The size difference is negligible. True, the .45 will...

    XDS vs Shield

I was pleasantly surprised by the Shield as well. Price point with the rebate aside, the Shield 45 is one of the softest shooting 45s I have shot. I found accuracy and shootability to be excellent in my hands.

Buyers Remorse 2 years later... HK P30

I think the issue lies with the operator, not the pistol, and I don't mean that in an insulting way. But an extra 0.5" slide length on the P30L isn't going to get you a substantial amount of greater accuracy. The single action trigger isn't all that different from striker fired pistols (*cough*...

Bill Jordan, an "AD" and Cooper's four rules

To me the "4 rules" are redundancies to each other, as the OP alluded to. For example, if you fail to clear and make safe, keeping the muzzle towards a safe direction and not touching the trigger may prevent a tragedy. Likewise, if you inadvertently sweep someone or something, but you have good...

    Dry Fire Sig sauer

Occasional dry fire (function checks, for example) will not harm the pistol. Excessive, prolonged dry fire (daily dry fire practice involving repeated trigger pulls, for example) can actually damage certain components of the pistol. That is why the manual is worded the way it is. I would...

How are mom and pop gun shops still around?

When I first got into shooting I would frequent area gun stores to not only look but get in range time. I haven't been to a gun store in years, though. I now shoot at an outdoor, private club for far less than you'd pay at an indoor range, so scratch that reason off the list. We have a newer...

Speer Lawman .357 sig - is this normal or bad?

That's pretty typical for Speer/Federal range ammunition. Even their defensive ammo comes with imperfectly polished brass. It's always functioned fine, and it's always been quality ammo for me. If you want pretty, shiny cases, look at S&B or European made ammunition. Freedom Munitions has also...

    Reason to stop carrying?

This kind of thinking should give your friend, or anyone, a pause to rethink their reason for carrying. I'm not criticizing your friend for being scared; that is a natural response, but what made your friend so certain that he would have engaged the 3 armed suspects? Had he actually been there...

Federal appeals court sides with physicians in ‘docs vs. Glocks’ case

Most of the time, there's no need to ask. When you come into clinic wearing hunting camouflage, or some other article of clothing with a gun/shooting related logo; or the one time I had a patient come into clinic wearing his empty holster....Eventually, you hang out around gun people enough...

Concealed Carrier shoots San Antonio Mall Robbery Suspect

Won't pass any judgement specific to this case without more details, but generally speaking, it's not worth A) getting shot over property that's not yours and is insured by a third party, or B) shooting another over property, especially if it's not yours to begin with and is insured by a third...

    M&P : Why not a winner?

The Army had already decided on the P320 going into the MHS trial. If you read their published requirements they were essentially written with the P320 in mind. But of course they needed an "open" trial to waste taxpayer money to eventually "select" the handgun they wanted from the beginning.

Here is new Ballistic gel testing out of .45 Shield with winter wear

Common misconception that gel is supposed to "simulate" living tissue of varying density. That's not the the point of gelatin. It's to facilitate uniformity of ballistics tests in order to make meaningful comparisons between different rounds. You can shoot the same round out of the same gun 10...
