When my kid was littler, I made sure he knew how to determine if a gun was loaded and how to make it safe. He also knew the rules of safe gun handling. I think that`s just responsible parenting.

Isn`t Rossi making a lever gun in 454? There`s one at a local gunshop. I think it`s a Rossi, but I`m not sure. It looks really nice. There must be a limit on how strong you can build a lever gun, 454 can be loaded pretty stout!

The Guide Gun in 45/70 is THE lever gun, imho. I prefer the ported barrel and the recoil isn`t that bad.
For factory loads, you can`t beat what Buffalo Bore offers, but they can be rather stout! Not for the recoil-sensitive.
I`m glad to see others who appreciate the 6.5x55 as much as I do. It`s a great "all-around" round.
I also really love the 45/70. Still a great backwoods round after all these years.
