I know that Varget is the benchmark for temperature insensitivity.
How does Reloader 10X compare? I'm considering it for lighter-bullet .223 and .308 loads, but we get 80 degree temperature swings from winter to summer.
kelbro--thanks again.
I will double check water capacity before I shoot these, just to make sure the higher mass of the Fed brass isn't resulting in significantly less internal volume.
Thank you so much for that data. I was a bit concerned about the shorter COAL spiking the pressure, but am relieved to see that it still shows WELL below max pressure.
BTW--do those pressure outputs take into account the lower case capacity of the Federal brass?
Yes--I have loaded all the way through 50.0 grains with this load at COAL=2.750" and it is still safe IN MY RIFLE.
However, I have not shot 49.7 grains in the short COAL of 2.705" and before I do so wanted to make sure the shorter COAL won't create an unexpected pressure spike beyond what is...
I am concerned about a load and would like to request someone with Quickload to run a pressure check for me before I shoot these out of my rifle.
.308 110 grain V-max
CCI 200 primer
49.7 grains Varget
Federal brass (178 grain)
18" barrel
I am interested in the respective pressures...
ROBCTWO: Hornady lists 2.740" minimum COAL for the 110 V-max in .308
I see that you are well under max powder charge with your load. However, I'm curious as to how you decided to go significantly shorter for your load development?
There is nothing in this country that you could easily get your hands on that was made in N. Korea.
S. Korea is night and day difference--learn a little.
If you're down under you may have easier access to Berdan primers--that is the bottleneck in the States that keeps many from reloading Berdan. It's certainly doable, with special decapping tools and whatnot, and some do it very successfully.
However, the supply of Berdan primers in the US...
Wow, so everybody who is bad-mouthing these Korean mags has zero experience with them specifically. (Prior experience with other non-OEM clearly tainting perception).
However, those who have actual experience with them have nothing bad to report?
I'm in for more objective reports on these...
I've heard awesome things of the TSX, but not necessary (i.e. overkill) for what you're hunting (and pricey).
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the 165 SST from Hornady. Shoots as accurately as SMK or other match bullets for many folks in .308, yet great on deer/hog sized-game.
The V-max is supposed to still have great explosiveness as low as 1500fps, so that's a really long reach out from a .308 before it slows down to just punching holes.
To the OP: if you're planning on using on coyotes, I don't think you want to plan on keeping the pelts. I hear they're very...
Interesting timeliness of this thread--I just loaded up a development "ladder" to test in my 1:12 .308.
Am itching to get out to the range to chrono and test...
I'm curious about folks with successful elk hunts with .308
I know some are in the "heavier/slower" camp and others in the "lighter/faster" one. Success stories with either?
Is a 150gr Remington PSP sufficient, or are the newer "bonded" and Partition type bullets significantly better...
I'll be using my G3 (7.62X51) for elk/mule deer this fall in the Rockies. Always wanted to hunt with a battle rifle.
Now that I've got a 5-rd mag, I'm good to go! Sure it's heavy, but I'll do extra conditioning the weeks before the hunt--the experience will be worth the extra pounds!
Sounds like you aren't dead set on 17 round capacity, since you're considering a 7-shot.
First of all, to counter what those without direct CCW experience with a full-frame G17 say, I can tell you first hand that it is NOT difficult to hide with a high-quality IWB holster. I use a Tucker...
