    New Ball Ammo thread

I want to start a new discussion on ball ammo. In the mid 70's as we were qualifying with the AR and 45 I noticed as we were setting up both boxes said "Ball" and then recalled it said the same thing on some of our .50 cal in the gun locker. There was also those designated Tracer with a...

Coyotes In Semi-Rural Area -- Which Caliber & Bullet Type?

.22 WMR Savage with Accutrigger and scope is my option.

    Scope for Marlin 60?

I put a Bushnell 4x32 on my 60 and later moved it to a Savage .22 Magnum. Shot a coyote at 120 yards under a spotlight and put it down with two shots. The problem was that I couldn't clearly make out the hit at that distance. Possible because it was at night with a spotlight??? I don't know...

    .270 or .308?

Jut my personal opition but knowing that a .22 magnum in the head can kill hogs up to 100lbs at about 50 yards, then you can work up from there which opens a very wide door. The question is more about your personal choices. Carry a .30-06 BAR all day and you'll wish for something lighter. Hit...

    Savage Edge/Axis Feed Problems

If anyone else comes across this and you are sure the magazine is fully inserted and the spring is not backwards, the bent over tabs that retain the bullets until the bolt slides them forward can be bent down too much and not allow the bullet to ride high enough. Check when you close the bolt...

How soon do you clean your guns after you shoot?

How soon do you clean your gun? I was going to the range 2-3 times a week shooting different guns for testing reloads. Between sessions I was cleaning and shooting and doing little else. I've settled to preparing my loads throughout the week, shooting on Friday afternoon after work, and then...

Ammo Prices going up april 1st - are you buying more now?

All probable. Doesn't change the fact that I am going to continue reloading because I enjoy the technical aspects of a challenge like this and because my cost is substantially less than any equal products. When I load lead rounds the cost of WWB is not much different but I can control quite a...

I would assume that the resident finally heard the word "Police Officers" and that was why he opened the door unarmed.

    Balance scales

Obviously there is always a balance between cost, function, and accuracy. I use the Lee scale that came with my deluxe kit. I started out a bit tenuous but as I got used to it I have no problems changing the scale per the loads I am working with. One thing I did was to make a mark (magic...

Ammo Prices going up april 1st - are you buying more now?

I've started reloading everything I shoot from .30-06 to .380. I've been experimenting with different versions of lead as I can get 500 rnds for the price of 185 JHP's. I still keep a box of Hornady or GD HP's and Speer and Sierra SPBT's for the 06. Will my guns get dirtier and need more...

do any of you guys carry a pocket knife

Absolutely. I have several which depend on the occassion. (The smallest cost me $300.00 in ER stitches when I fogot the golden rule, "Treat all knives as if they are sharp.) As a former Coast Guardsman, firefighter, police officer, EMT, and Boy Scout, I can't tell you how many times a day I...

Poll: What .380 JHP ammo do you carry for self-defense

I load my own. 9mm 115 grn Sierra HP's with HP38 powder. Cycle flawlessly and are in the Lee Manual as acceptable loads. I am more concerned about too much penetration and hitting someone on the other side. Having been trained so I always pull the trigger twice anyway.

    Which 9mm would you choose?

For home defense I use a Ruger SR9. 17rd mag, full size, and confident in the reliability. For CC I like the Bersa .380 Thunder with HP's. It has double action and a larger grip which makes it a little less easy to conceal, however, I can control it better out of the chute. One scenario I...

Media That Influenced You To Buy A Gun?

My brother and I used to hunt and fish the rivers and swamps around South East Texas. We used my grandfathers old pump .22 and .410. We later worked in LE. He carried several different side arms throughout his years but I carred a S&W .38 +P HP's. Then, I took a 30 year hiatus from guns...

    Carbide dies

Oops. .380. And the reason I reload them is in anticipation of scarcity. Once I have determined my standard load data (using 9mm rounds) I will go back to using commercial bullets until such time that I cannot find any. Then, I will know that I can always fall back on the reloading...

    Carbide dies

Reloading .30-06, 9mm, and .280 with a Lee Turret Press. I would prefer to use a lube for a very good reason. Since the turret press won't cycle the .30-06 I have to break up the steps starting with cleaning, then de-priming before trimming and repriming. Those additional steps, plus adding...

A rifle for the range, and then some?

.30-06 I was in a quandry too. I eventually decided on the Savage (Edge or Axis = same thing) .30-06 for several reasons. (1) Price. I shopped around and got mine for $275.00 at Wal-Junk and put a Nikkon Pro-Staff 3-9x40 for $99.00. (2) .30-06 can be found everywhere, even the corner mom...

    Father-in-law's guns

Those were the days Every time I hear one of those stories my stomach just rolls and my brain cries out.... The one thing I do know is that I will never sell another gun. My mom still has my grandfathers .38 S&W he was carrying as a Deputy during the Texas City explosion. I made sure she...

    Hi point pistols

Hi-Point 9mm Carbine I own a Hi-Point 9mm Carbine. It shoots every time so far with 1000 (plus) rnds through it. I find that it will eat just about any ammo and the 124 grn +P (NATO) has the best grouping at 50 yds for a commercial round. I consider the Hi-Points to be rugged, dependable...

why are bolt actions more accurate

What Ammo? Ammo can also play a big part. My SiL has a .30-30 lever, I have a .30-06 bolt. The ammo he uses because it is a spring loaded tube feed is RN. Mine is Spritzer BT so my BC is much better than his at 100yds.
