You must find the pistol that feels right for you. I think a Browning Hi-Power with nice grips is hard to beat and a great first firearm. (I don't care for the factory "square" grips.)
Sig keeps their secrets well. I don't care when it comes out as long as they have a winner and it works right from the get go. I want that pistol and I loath being a SIG beta tester.

My Hi-Power with C&S trigger, Spegel grips and C&S safety is still my favorite pistol and a joy to shoot. VERY ACCURATE. For a CCW everyday ...it's an XD9SC for me (or a Glock 26 as a second choice.)
