After you get your Kahr it's best to do this 10 point lube before your 1st trip to the range.

My CW40 has never failed.
When I go it I gave it the recommended 10 point pre-lub and it went through the recommended 200 round break-in without any failures of any kind.
I live in Texas (and have a CHL) also and wear light clothing most of the time and cant carry the wide guns.
Recently the weather got cold for about 2 weeks and I was able to carry my Glock 23.
A Kahr CW40 is what I carry all year round under a T shirt or Polo shirt.
I have a CW40 and love it. It's not a bad kicker at all.
I think most of the bs about the CW40's kick is generated by companies that port barrels.
Maybe in the smaller Kahr's such as the PM40 is hard on some people but the CW40 allows a full grip.
My 629 & 686 don't have those marks. Maybe that's just a characteristic of your model. Or as you stated it maybe something that was fixed by a police armorer at one time. Might be enlightening to give Smith a call.
I have a S&W 357 & 44 that don't have those marks. I'd be worried if it were mine.
Are the primers being hit on center?
Is the gun still in time?
Has someone been opening the cylinder by rapidly flipping the wrist while depressing the latch?
