    Rechamber 7x57 to 280 ackley???

I had my Interarms Mark X in 7x57 rechambered to 280 Rem about 20 years ago and have regretted it ever since. It shot good as a 7x57 and still shoots good as a 280 Rem, but the difference is not noticable downrange, since I reload. Last year I contracted for a custom 7x57 built by Mike McCabe...

    9.3x62 vs 375 H&H

I'd go with the 9.3. Haven't had a .375, but did have a 416 Taylor. Ended up selling it and built up a 9.3x62 on a Mauser action. Ammo is harded to find locally, but I reload and componets are easy to obtain. I also cast and have found that moulds for the 9.3 are a little harder to find. I...

    Remington 700 mounts and rings?

I agree, Weaver mounts are good to go. They have been around for many years and have stood the test of time. Been using them since the early sixties. I do like the Burris rings however, more than the Weaver.

    Mauser Action For Rifle Build

Mauser Build You picked a great cartridge to build on and a great action also. The Turk/Swede is a good option or you can go with a standard LR 98 and pick up a 6.5x55 barrel from Midway or Brownells. I've got a LR 98 Spanish Mauser action that I'll let go for $180 shipped if you are...

    BRNO VZ 24 Sporter

VZ-24 Chambering Reading you comments about having issues chambering a round made me think about this.... You may or may not know this . but Mausers were designed to feed rounds from the magazine, i.e., load the magazine, then cycle the bolt to pick up a round (controlled round feeding)...

Need help cleaning a mil-surplus barrel

Hot water and soap will remove all the corrosive salts and powder fouling. These rifles have a history of firing that old corrosive ammo and it you want to really clean it, you need to get all the corrosive crud out. Than you can use Sweets or any of the other copper cleaners.

    Mosin Nagant Cleaning Question

Don't forget to "wash down" the bolt assembly or you will be seeing rust very soon.

Need help cleaning a mil-surplus barrel

I always start off with a pot of boiling hot water with a touch of dishwashing detergent. Prop your rifle muzzle down, bolt removed and with a small funnel, start pouring the soapy solution down the bore until the barrel is HOT. You are outside....right? Run a patch with bore cleaner and see...

    Slugging some barrels

Fishing sinkers of the egg shape make very good slugs for this purpose. Choose one slightly larger than your bore then grease/lube your barrel and egg fishing sinker liberally. I use hardwood dowels as close to the bore diameter as possible. If you have space, I do like flgolfer29 recommends...

    Rebarrel a Mauser 98

Lothar Walther makes, in my opinion and experience, very good quality barrels, especially if you are looking to restore a milsurp with a stepped barrel. I have a 7x57 and a .308 and cannot complain about either. They shoot much better that I can hold.

    Mauser-itis...

Swedish 6.5 Their asking price for the Swede is a little high, unless it's the M94 Carbine. They are very desirable and easily recognizable due to their very short overall length and nose cap. A typical M96 or M38 (bent bolt if matching #) or M38/96 (straight bolt) often sell anywhere fron...

    7mm mausers?

The 93 Mauser, especially the Spanish versions are probably amoung the weakest of the small ring Mausers available. They quality and gas handling attributes leave much to be desired, especially compared to the 98 Mauser. They are cock on closing. control round feeding actions and are designed to...

What's the point of sporterizing mil-surps?

To Sporterize or Not Just want to add.... none of my sporterized military rifles were in any way collectable. I would never sporterize a firearm that had collectable value in any sense of the word. Making a decision to sporterize one can be a hard decision for some, but for those who collect...

What's the point of sporterizing mil-surps?

Sporterized vs. bubbarized Sporterizing military rifles is a far cry from hacking off the barrel and removing the forearm and shortening the stock. That in itself is the definition of "bubbarizing", not sporterizing. Certain military rifles, i.e... bolt actions, are the basis of quite a few of...
