Very helpful. I'd always wondered why so many DA revolvers have such a heavy trigger pull. I'd probably prefer something that would allow me to pull the hammer back. I don't like the hammerless look or feel. Is there a reason that they're hammerless other than for looks or simplicity?

Good to know! I really like the brass. It compliments the silver and black colors. The backstrap has a matte finish on it as well, and I don't think it will really "age" with that on there. Should I remove the finish to let it start to patina naturally?
Do it to your gunfighter. You won't be disappointed. Just make sure to use synthetic steel wool and not real steel wool. I've never been a fan of these matte black guns, especially when we're dealing with colt clones. You never saw Clint Eastwood with a matte black gun :)
This is great! I love seeing these antiquing projects. I suppose one day if my El Patron starts to show too much wear I might strip the gun and do something like this to it. Thanks for sharing :D
I had this concern originally, but I've been informed by several good people on these forums that it won't rust any more than any other gun. As long as you keep a wipe of oil on the gun (like you should with all guns) it won't have any problems :D
Crazy thing, isn't it? :) I'm not so sure I would go "extreme" lengths to age the gun. Some people completely tear the gun apart and chemically change the appearance of each piece of steel. The reason for what you see above is simply that the gun was $250, but it really looks like a toy pop gun...
I used the lemon oil. I was going to use oil soap too, but for some reason I had a heck of a time putting the backstrap back on the gun. Almost stripped out the screws because they just didn't want to line up very well. I was surprised how much oil the grips absorbed through the checkering.
Thanks everyone for the help on getting these grips clean. Before, they were a muddy brown and you couldn't see the grain at all.
:neener: Take that, Uberti brown grease!
I like the more natural look too, but I'll admit I was amazed how much better the finish was after even a quick couple swipes with the synthetic steel wool. It looked like a totally different gun in sixty seconds. Personally I have a Uberti El Patron, blued and case hardened. I think I'll stick...
Today I shot a friend's Taurus small frame 357 that he uses for concealed carry. He got me interested in maybe finding a gun to carry, but I absolutely hated his little hammerless revolver. The trigger pull was absolutely terrible, and required a lot of effort on my part to the get the trigger...
Two of my buddies picked up their Hombres today that came from Tanners, and one of them antiqued the matte black finish. It greatly improved the look of the gun. What do you think? :D
Anybody have any suggestions for the brass? He doesn't want them looking like the statue of liberty, as salt...
rcmodel, I like the way lemon oil smells. Picked some up today. Will lemon oil hurt the bluing of my gun? Because I'd really like to wipe the whole gun down lightly with the lemon oil to get rid of the nasty smell that came from the brown factory oil.
Thank you. I'll try this tomorrow when I get time. I've never used lemon oil... My main concern is the oil seeping back onto my hand while at the range. Will that be a problem?
Don't be offended. I'm playing with you. :D You are 100% correct in that people need to stick with published loads. I was just a little worried that perhaps my cattleman could only handle very mild loads, and I didn't want to blow it up. I freely admit I'm new to this. But I appreciate your...
What model is the second revolver from the top? Did you antique that? It looks like a genuine colt. Beautiful guns, btw. That one is especially eye catching.
Your failure to understand any concept really isn't the point of this thread. People used to fail to understand how the earth could be round. I am merely trying to understand more about reloading, and not blow my hand off.
If, perhaps, I was intending to fill my 45 Colt cartridges with rocket...
