    Bersa Question

One of my biggest regrets is ever selling my Bersa. I had a model 83, which is a single stack .380 and it was very accurate, and I never experienced a malfunction with any type of ammo.

Some Marines still carry M1911 .45's

They’re issued to Force Reconnaissance Marines That says it all. These troops are not everyday grunts. They're the USMC version of Rangers/SEALs/Special Forces. That's what the SOC (Special Operations Capable) means behind the MEU. They can conduct what the spooks call "black bag" ops...

Do Guns Cause Crime and Violence?

I wonder if pencils cause misspelled words...

Would you CCW into an anti home?

I will unless they ask me not to. Doing so afterward would not be showing respect for them in their home. edited for spelling.

LEOs and Military: Why did you join?

I joined the Marine Corps because I wanted to be a cop, but knew that as middle-class white-bread boy, I was in no way prepared for it. When I got out, they weren't hiring people of my color and gender, so I went back to school. Pretty much the same, but I wasn't 21 yet, and the chief told...

Do you still own the first gun you BOUGHT?

No, but that is one I wish I had kept. First gun was a .380 Bersa 83. I loved it, but needed the cash to get gun #2, a 9mm Taurus PT-908 I still have this one. Got a Kel-Tec P-11 for the wife, she gave it to me, and I still have that. Bought a Glock 19 for the Sheriff's Office when I...

    Seeing in vs. seeing out

In the daytime the blinds are open. It's brighter outside than in, so you can see out but not in. The reverse is true at night so the blinds get closed. If I want to see something at night, I go outside.

    General Joe Foss: 1915-2003

When my 12 year old son made the distinction between being a Marine and being "an army man" it was because I was in uniform and he called me an "army man" and I corrected him, telling him that people in the Army were soldiers, and that I was a Marine. My son asked me what a Marine was. I...

A hint by the way of the word filter

On a lighter note....can you yell movie in a crowded firehouse? You can if you are safely out of the way of the resulting stampede. These guys work harder at doing nothing than any people I know. :) As far as restrictions on language on this or any other forum... You have a right to...

    Reality vs Rambo!

Re: Harold Mayo I had a long post to reply here, but suffice it to say this... 1. You're right about preparing for an attacker. That is, after all why I carry my gun. I was tired and what I was trying to do (responding to the original post) was make the point that if somebody wants to...

    Misconceptions of Military Service

That Reservists are not real Soldiers. Huh! I had D Battery, 2d Battalion, 14th Marines with my unit in DS. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bob A, I was in that unit up until shortly before DS. We didn't seem all that organized but I...

    Magazine disconnects

I agree that in a weapon retention situation, if your pistol has a magazine disconnect safety (MDS) and you feel you may lose control of it to the BG struggling with you, hitting the magazine release and dumping the magazine will make the gun safe and may prevent you getting shot. What this...

    Reality vs Rambo!

KSFree...oops, El Tejon said it right. You train and prepare for the UNlikelihoods, not what is likely. Just like you carry car insurance which covers only what is unlikely to happen to your car, right? There is no way to prepare for an armed attacker. If somebody wants to...

Sig or Glock in .45ACP for Carry?

I carried a Glock for 4 years and the one thing I noticed is that even though I abused it and hardly ever cleaned it, it didn't rust. I had casings rust a little from sweat, but never the gun itself. I don't know how you plan to use yours, but I'd at least consider the chore of maintaining...

    Misconceptions of Military Service

That all Marines are stupid. That all Marines are tough. That basic training teaches you how to fight/kill. (It did teach me to shoot a rifle, but mostly how to march, iron a uniform, polish boots and be yelled at by everybody who had something on their sleeve or collar) That if you...

    Legal car carry w/out CCW

On your person, you can carry in the open, but not concealed. Some cities/counties/towns have old laws regarding open carry and you will be arrested if you have no CCW permit. For carrying in a car, VA law is vague and it will depend on where you are, and if you inform the officer you have...

So you've got 'im at gunpoint...

Wow, where do you start? I've heard it all, and been with cops at scenes like this. I even Had a detective tell me to put a kitchen knife in the intruder's very dead hand after I reload. All hyperbole aside, I think the cop in me would take over and assess my target before firing. Tennessee...

    Just One Gun?

Pistol? not good for hunting really, but if it's all you have... Rifle? cumbersome for personal defense and using high powered ones to hunt small game and foul is like using a sledgehammer to kill mosquitos. But it will kill bears... which I understand frequent the boonies, so make mine...

What do you do? What do you carry?

First post on this forum. I'm self employed (Landscaper) and go to and through some pretty crummy parts of this area. I was an LEO (part time) for 4 years. I used to carry my old duty weapon (Glock 19) but sold it to my father in law and want to get a 36, which I plan to do in about 2...
