    Question for hog hunters

Out here in California, a lot depends on the time of year the pig is shot and available forage. The best time to shoot a pig is from late November through the end of May. They feed on acorns in the fall and move on to roots and green vegetation in the winter when the ground is soft and wet. They...

    New Production Remington 700 adl

A buddy of mine recently got a 700 adl. It's a basic rifle, but serves its purpose and is sufficiently accurate. Another friend has a TC Venture and it's an absolute tack driver. I picked it up, having never shot it before, and shot a 3 shot group at 100 yards with cheap corelokt ammo that...

Any interest in the 6.5 Grendel?

Been kicking around the idea of building a 6.5 upper for a while. Main purpose would be ringing steel at long range and shooting wary coyotes that don't want to come inside 4-500 yards. I like the .223 and have a mossberg MVP that's a tack driver with 50 gr vmax, but the high BC of the 6.5 makes...

    Rebarrel Remington 700-Reccomendations

I've been wanting to have my 700 in 30-06 rebarreled to 35 Whelen with a slightly heavier contour than the factory sporter. Looked at ER Shaw, Pac Nor, Hart, and McGowen. I'm also considering doing it myself with a "Rem-age" conversion from McGowen. Any experience with any of these shops? What...

Thompson Center Venture 300 win mag

My coworker has one in 30-06 and it's a shooter. After he sighted it in, I picked it up and shot a .75 inch group at 100 yards with the cheap scope it comes with, having never shot the rifle before. It's got to be one of the best bang for your buck rifles out there.

    recommended minimum scope power

The terrain I hunt for deer is a mix of dense pine trees with occasional open granite slab areas and cross canyon shots up to 300 yards. On my 30-06 I have a 3-9x40 and it's perfect for the longer shots and doesn't sacrifice much for close range. My 30-30 wears a weaver 1-3 which is plenty out...

    Hog hunting

Personally I'd never recommend anything smaller than a 243 for hog hunting. Go with a lever or bolt gun in a suitable caliber, .308 is a great choice.

    Glenfield vs Marlin accuracy

Can't speak to a true Marlin, but my Glenfield is a shooter! 150 interlock at 100 yards with a 3x weaver scope.
