I am planning on going to OK in November for a hog hunt just before the Tulsa gun show. This will be a first for me. I was wondering what caliber rifle would be best for a hunt like that. Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks for the advice. I can understand that a 40gr bullet is going to be very susceptible to the wind. I'll let you know how it goes once I get it sighted in.
I've made kill shots with my Savage Mod 12 .223 out to 500 yds and my 270 WSM to 750+ yds so I've got a fair amount of experience with the longer range stuff, but this is my first 204. I plan on using 40gr Hornady V-Max ammo and I have a Zeiss scope with the Varmint reticle ordered. The scope...
I recently got a No 1 Ruger in .204 Ruger cal. I plan on using it for long range prairie dog and groundhog hunting. I was wondering, with a very good optic, what would be the max range for this rifle shooting from a rest or sandbags? I haven't shot it yet. I am awaiting the arrival of my...
I went on a groundhog hunt last month and I made kills (head shots actually) @ 460yds. So, on a deer sized animal, I wouldn't be afraid to make a shot to 700yds or more, maybe as far as 900-1,000yds if conditions were right. I would use a Savage Model 12 and ammo that I knew the ballistics...
I don't think you will go wrong with either one. I have a CZ 452 and I have a Savage Model 12 and both of them are tack drivers. From an accuracy standpoint I believe you will be happy regardless of which you choose. I would touch and feel both and go with the one that feels the best in your...
I will be leaving for TN tomorrow as a chaparone for my church youth group. I will be watching over a dozen teenagers. We are headed for Gatlinburg. I have my Ohio permit, which as I understand is recognized in TN.
My question is this... Other than Government buildings and schools, what...
I would grab my AR-15 w/Eotech and for longer range my Savage Model 12, both in .223 for interchangability and availability of ammo w/300 rds min plus my H&K USP 40 with another 300rnds.
I've had great luck with my Savage model 12. They have that available in .308. I went with the FV version that has the heavy barrel and synthetic stock. It's great for hunting. They have other versions with the pretty wood etc. in the Model 12. The trigger is great and the value for the...
I've found the local gun shows to be my best bet. I buy almost all my ammo for all calibers at the shows. When buying in case quantity, they beat local retailer sale prices plus you don't have to pay the high costs of shipping of the heavy items that you have when ordering online. So, if you...
Yet another vote for the CZ 452. I have a Special/Trainer model and you can use the irons or scope it, whichever you prefer. They are tack drivers out of the box and within your budget.
I would suggest you take a look at the Savage Model 12. I have a Model 12FV which is the varmint model heavy barrel with the synthetic stock. I've taken it out groundhog hunting twice since I got it and the rifle has made head shots on those little guys at 450+ yds. In my book, that's pretty...
As earlier posters have indicated, I don't believe this individual is very well informed. Also, I may be wrong, but I've never heard of a "printing violation" either.
As long as the establishment isn't illegal to carry in, I would say absolutely go for it.
As long as you are not careless and clumsy, it shouldn't matter in the short run. However, once you get the rifle sighted in with the good optics, I would have a hard case to keep it in from that point forward. It will preserve your investment and avoid frustration later from bumping the scope...
