AAR: Ken Hackathorn Advanced Handgun April 26-27 Elkin NC

AAR Continued: It was too long for one post: Conclusion: Ken is a great instructor, if he would have taught me under water basket weaving; I would have been happy. I could sit and listen to him talk for days. He is the kind of guy that tells you “what”, the “how” and the why behind it. He has...

AAR: Ken Hackathorn Advanced Handgun April 26-27 Elkin NC

Who: Me: I am currently an LEO in a large city. I was an infantryman in the US Army for 8 years and deployed to Iraq on three occasions. I have taken many courses over the years from some well known instructors/ schools and some that are not so well known. I have attended training courses on...

Glock Project #2: G17 Carry Gun

Yesterday I shot 300rds through the G17 Gen 4. I used 115gr Monarch FMJ. I had no malfunctions, no brass in the face. I have noticed that the Monarch ammo is loaded "lighter" than some other 115gr ammo that I have used in this and other guns in the past. I did have one piece of brass that didn't...

How long have you used your gun belt?

Ares Ranger belt. I have had it for about three years and have carried with it daily and have used it in all the training courses, and range sessions that I have attended in the last three years.

    Bushnell TRS 25

I am happy with mine. It was on my AR22 training rifle first and then it proved to work well so I have been running it on my "real" AR for a while now and I like it a lot. For the money I think that they are hard to beat. The AR is no longer my primary means of fighting as I am no longer an 11b...

    Glock 27 gen 3 or 4

I say go for the Gen 4. Better texturing on the grip and the larger magazine release. The brass in the face is common in 9mm and I haven't really heard of that issue in the .40's. Even if it did, it can be easily fixed. I fixed my Gen 4 G17 from throwing brass in my face. I think you will be...

Durability of other polymer pistols compared to Glock

I think that was a part issue more so than an XD issue. Mine is a .40 XD and .40 handguns are a little rougher compared to the same gun in 9mm. I have often said that if mine was a 9mm, I don't think the trigger bar would have broken.

Durability of other polymer pistols compared to Glock

I have an XD service model that has over 21,000rds through it. the trigger bar broke on me on both occasions. One at about 5k and the second time at 18k. I don't have that many rounds through any one other gun so it is hard to compare. My Glock 19 has over 11k through it and I have not had any...

Your go to self defense pistol - what spare parts do you keep

If you shoot and or train enough you will eventually need spare parts. Or you will take several trips to fed ex to ship your guns back. Things break and things wear out. Not to mention that if you are a high volume shooter your guns need to be on a maintenance schedule. IE. when you reach rounds...

    Glock ejects to face

OP, See my thread here: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=746708 I fixed the brass to the face issue on my Gen 4 17. Maybe this will start you in the right direction.

Glock Project #2: G17 Carry Gun

Update: Yesterday I ran an additional 265rds through the G17 Gen 4. 200rds of Speer Lawman 124gr TMJ, 50rds of Monarch 115gr FMj, and 15rds of Speer Gold Dot 124gr JHP. There were no malfunctions, no brass in the face, and ejection was perfect. This puts the gun at 915rds since the internal...

Your go to self defense pistol - what spare parts do you keep

I keep spares of all the springs that my glocks use. Spare recoil springs, trigger springs, firing pin springs, slide stops, mag catch spring so forth and so on. I also keep spare ejectors and extractors as well as spring cups because they are evil little things that like to get missing when...

What's your age group and what do you carry?

I am 29, and an LEO. I am issued an M&P and that is what I carry on duty. However, on my own time I carry a Glock 17 or 19. If it was up to me to supply my own carry gun, it would be a G17.

What is the fastest firing handgun that you can shoot accuratelly

For me it is a glock. Specifically a glock in 9mm such as a 17 or 19.

    Hackathorn sights by Ameriglo

It seems like everybody and their brother has a set of signature sights out these days. That is good for the shooting community for sure. I always love having options. Raze, A 90 degree face to my rear sights are a must for one handed manipulations. I like the sight that Pincus came out...

    Hackathorn sights by Ameriglo

If I was not such a fan of blacked out rears, I would go with the I dot set up as well. The best of both worlds between a one dot and a three dot system. I like the I dots because they give you a reference point on the rear but it doesn't give a cluttered sight picture like a set of three dots...

    Hackathorn sights by Ameriglo

I am really looking forward to running these sights in Ken's Advanced Handgun course next month. These are not the best pictures of the sights but this is what I have on hand at the moment. Hackathorn sights compared to a Trijicon Tritium front (unpainted).
