    holster design

Most holsters for the 1860 Army that I have seen have closed bottoms. I would think an open bottom would be better, lessening the danger of dirt of foreign matter collecting there and plugging the muzzle. Is there a reason for a closed bottom?

    Percussion caps' life expectancy

I have a couple of sealed Remington #11 caps in the old white tins [not paper labels]. I opened one tin and fired a couple of them that were OK. I'm wondering if they would likely all be reliable. I'm not sure how old they are. When did Remington change to the green tins?

    The Sacketts' weapons

I just watched The Sacketts last night. It was interesting to try to identify the weapons used. What was Tyrell's revolver in the final shootout? It looked bigger than the one he used in the earlier scenes. Walker or Dragoon? And Tell did a really quick reload in the barn at the end while...

    Nipple notes

I finally got a good nipple wrench and removed the nipples from my as yet unfired Uberti 1860 Army. Two questions. How much pressure to tighten them? I put TC Anti-seize lube on them and put them back in just finger tight. Do they need some wrench tightening? Also, do you remove them every...

    Powder questions

How many 25-grain loads will I get with one pound of Pyrodex P? Assuming it has not been fired since cleaning, does it harm a revolver to leave it loaded [uncapped] for any amount of time? For a week?

Stainless nipples for Uberti Colt Army

My SS nipples from TOTW came today. Really fast service from them. However, they start to screw in about 1/2 turn and then stop. I don't want to force them. They are labeled 12-28 thread, for Uberti Cold Army. Is it possible Uberti made some non-standard cylinders? Do I put a bit more...

    CCI #10 caps

The replacement stainless steel nipples for my Uberti 1860 Army recommend CCI #11 caps. All I have found are CCI #10 caps. Are they likely to fit at all? I have the original Uberti nipples. Will the CCI caps fit them? Why are percussion caps in such short supply?

    Butt forward fast draw

Wild Bill and Josey Wales carried their revolvers butt forward. I've watched those films over to see how it's done, but the action is too fast. Has anyone seen a video [You Tube] showing how it's done? I'm not into fast draw, although I was 60 years ago. In college, we used to pull the...

    1860 Army hammer screw

Watching a YouTube comparison of an original and a Uberti 1860 Army, I noticed that the hammer screws on both models were flush with the frame. On my Uberti, the hammer screws protrude about 1/4" from the frame. In fact, my trigger finger rubs against one that is rather sharp. I have...

Caps for Uberti .44 Army 1860

Just got my first black powder replica, the 1860 Army .44 by Uberti. The manual does not say which cap size to use. I assume #10, but would like to be sure. Also, the nipple wrench in Cabela's starter kit won't engage the nipples. Will the Ted Cash ratchet nipple wrench for #10 nipples work...
