Sig 226 ( how good is ths gun )

It is a strong contender for the "what if I could only have one gun..." question. The other one would be a SW 686 for me

    smokeless loads in NAA Companion

I would be careful with any smokeless powder in it. I have one of those little revolvers and used to shoot it with BP as well as opening a case of 22lr and emptying the powder into the NAA companion. 22Mag is much more powerful and I would not dare to do that. Just my opinion. The steel of the...

    Ruger Old Army

Gone are the good old days only a couple years ago when I bought my last one in very good used condition for $350. Glad I did, will probably never sell it. If you can find one under $500 these days in like new condition, jump on it. They are very well built and no more are coming.

How do you carry your P232?

I have a Bersa which is about the same size. I carry it in waste band. Works great. Don't remember what brand the holster is but it is an inexpensive clip on leather holster. I like the clip so when I sit down I can take it off easily. Enjoy, I would prefer the Sig but the Bersa is reliable...

Can a blackpowder revolver be left loaded indefinitely?

I did not have as much luck as some of you guys leaving it loaded. My experience is that you get about a 50% chance (half fired) on a BP revolver that has been left loaded for extended periods of time. Here in Texas, the main problem is moisture so I think the powder just gets too wet. I do try...

Rate of return - Investing in replica BP revolvers

Ruger Old Army prices have certainly gone up since they discontinued it. I own three of them so I am happy with what I have and plan on keeping them forever!

    Pietta .44 NMA 1858

Guys, an important fact is missing in this discussion and that is WHAT TYPE of BP or Pyrodex are we talking about? FF, FFF or what??? Accuracy does not only depend on how much but just as important what we put in. I am have been able to get great loads in my ROA with Swiss FF or FFF and I am...

    Conversion Cylinder or Vaquero??

I would say conversion cylinder if you can find one used as I did. If not, get the second gun. I love my ROA and my conversion cylinder but it is a pain to load. I think I paid around $200 for my conversion cylinder so a new gun would have been quite a bit more. And I have more room in the safe...

    packing revolver cylinder

I use borebutter on the bullet and wax on the caps for bad weather / humid / long term storage. If you really want to seal it well for long term storage or carry in the heat / humidity, use candle wax. Borebutter will just get too runny.

    Conicals in revolvers

same here. No lube on conicals. Never a problem. And like the previous posts, my theory is that the lead shaved off is enough of a seal. As far as accuracy, I prefer round ball however and use grease on them when loading in the field. When I load at home, under very clean and controlled...

Does anyone NOT use expensive hollowpoint ammo in their defensive handguns?

My 1911 was designed for 230 round ball and that is what I use. Many times I actually use my own reloads.

Why Was the Ruger Old Army Discontinued?

It is a shame that they are discontinued. I can see however that people were reluctant to pay over $500 for a new one. I bought two of mine used for less than the 1858 are going new and it is a much better cap and ball revolver. Maybe not accurate but better, which is what I want. I am planning...

    45 ACP case trim?

Never trim handgun cases. If you are loading for economy reasons or to make special very light loads for speed competition as I do I see no need to trim a handgun case. I do run them all thru a gauge before shooting to get the out of spec cases out.

    NAA Companion BP Revolver

Have to agree, you can not hit anything with it unless you are touching it. It is a novelty item only. Fun to look at and shoot but by no means "practical". I do carry mine in the woods once in a while loaded with smokeless in case I get in an argument with a frog ;)

    Ruger Old Army Discontinued ?

Let's hope that the ROA will come back. It truly would stink if it is discontinued. It is such a great gun and the best BP revolver I have ever shot. Thank god I have a couple spares ;) Let's hope that this is not another Ruger political statement. I just can't imagine why they would...
