M1 Carbine - questionable stopping power

30 carbine Just think of it as a 110 grain .357 magnum and a half. The stories about it not going through quilted clothing are from the korean war and were probably from using the gun beyond its maximum effective range. these guns were very popular with the police during the 60's riots and...

    Unmarked S&W model 36?

unmarked 36 If it is a S&W its probably a "lunch box gun", where various parts go home with an employee and are put together there. A quick way to get killed is to be caught by the bad guys with a sterile gun. Back in the late 60's when I was an Army agent we were issued .38 Colt Detective...

The best carry for CCW- Barami Hip-Grip ?

P.S. If you really want to look like a Chicago "dick" from the 60's or 70's (when people still carried small snubs as their main gun) leave the small wooden checkered grip on your body side. This helps keep the gun from moving around.

The best carry for CCW- Barami Hip-Grip ?

I have had some type of barami hip grip J frame since the 1960's. They really don't fall down your leg and provide real concealment. I don't know if they are still available, but a white hip grip, and a stainless j frame just about disappears with a white shirt and suit coat. There is a smith...

Anyone familiar with WWI shoulder fired anti-tank rifles?

boys/boyes If you want to further research them, they were also called "boyes" depending on which training manual you used. If my memory serves the "boyes" was more often used by the Brits. Seeing they invented the thing, that might be the proper spelling.

    future weapons on Discovery

Future Weapons/May 2006 Tried to watch "Future Weapons" the other night, but when the highly skilled ten year veteran of the Navy Seals called the destroyer COLE (attacked by terrorists while in harbor) a "Battleship" I had to leave the room laughing. His boot camp Commander probably went home...

    Ear protection in boot camp?

ear protection Went to basic at Fort Leonard Wood in summer 1967, then to LPC and Infantry AIT at Fort Polk. Had little flesh colored round ear plugs in a cylindrical clear plastic container with chain at both places. The reason I know this, is I still have them. Then went on to travel all...

    FN model 1910

Well the search continues. Hopefully the librarians in Florida will have better luck than in my little town. By the way, and way off the subject of FN 1910's, I have a baby nambu with genuine tortoise shell grips that fit better than the wood grips. Apparently the japanese grip makers could...

    FN model 1910

Thanks, that seems like it makes sense. The only problem is that the only other marks on the gun (beside the FN rollmark on the left side of the slide) are a "4" on the bottom of the dustcover. I have never seen a "4" in that location. (by the way the number "4" was apparently good enough...

    FN model 1910

I am trying to find any information on a gunmark found on the right frame, slide and barrel of an FN model 1910 that was a WWII bringback. This mark is a Circle about 4MM in diameter with a capital "B" in the middle. My gunmark book doesn't show this mark and the library in my small town is...
