What pistol for the non-dedicated shooter?

I understand, but the revolver is out for LEO - almost no dept issues them.

What pistol for the non-dedicated shooter?

The typical LEO qualifies once per year, maybe twice. There may be an additional practice (i.e. low light) session or two - figure 300 rounds max fired per year. Figure that most armed citizens may not shoot even that much. What action type and platform would you choose to issue or...

    SIG 2008 catalog - P250

The on-line catalog lists all the caliber/frame/slide variations. General thoughts on this pistol?

Stopping Power of .45 Compared to 9mm

I choose the 9mm. Many reliable platforms that were designed specifically for it, and a gun for every possible build, action preference, etc. Low recoil, high capacity, accurate, loads of good duty ammo and cheap practice ammo. I think anyone using .357 Sig, .40 or .45 ACP is well-armed. The...

    Biggest handgun disappointment.

The Glock 37/38 in .45 GAP. I waited for years to see a Glock with a 4 to 4.5 inch bbl, 8 to 10 rounds in the mag, and chambered for the .45 ACP! What's yours?

    Glock: 17 or 19?

I long gravitated toward the medium pistol - Glock 19, SIG 229, etc. Now, I would pick the full-size 17. The 17 is just a touch heavier, and the trigger reach is the same as grip circumference is the same. The full-size grip feels better to me, and eliminates the pinched palm syndrome during...

Federal 357 Magnum 125 Grain Personal Defense Ammunition

Isn't the Federal Personal Defense line loaded down a bit? I don't think it reaches the pressure level of the original 125 grain jhp round.

    If limited to two handguns....

I read once that Austrian citizens could own a maximum of two handguns. I've often thought what mine would be. For now: Glock 17; S&W J-frame .38. What's your choice?

    Favorite Glock Poll!

The .40 and .357 models should be included - the .40 22 is supposedly the most popular service [pistol.

    Thoughts on .40SW

Platform warning. A .40 in a SIG 229 recoils noticebly less than a Glock 23. Personally, I think a 9 with 124 grain +P hollowpoints works just fine.

Those crazy Europeans and the 9mm

I'll ask the question a different way. German police embraced the 9mm once again when they adopted the H&K P30. Did they say, "It's always been a 9mm so it shall be forever" or did they look at other choices and conclude they had little to offer?

Those crazy Europeans and the 9mm

I note that (just about) every European nation issues some kind of 9mm pistol to police and military forces - even to the low drag, high speed outfits. Are the armed personnel over there howling about the underpowered pistols they are forced to carry? If an elite group wanted a .40 or .45, I'd...

    I admit it...the .40 hurts....

I guess I'll just have to eat my spinach, like mom told me to. For the record, I find the G21 SF .45 far easier to control. I just wish I could carry it. Thanks for all the replies.

    I admit it...the .40 hurts....

For years I carried a Glock 19 and loved it. My agency switched to the Glock 23 in .40.....and it is a handfull! I'm not suprised, given the combination of light weight and stout cartridge. I know many agencies issue the gun. Anyone else find the .40 problematic?

They are both new, similar in size but very different in price. Any comparisons?

M&P - is it really any better than a Glock?

I bought my M&P with the mag disconnect. I happen to like the feature. I am required to carry a Glock 23 and find it 100% reliable - I have only put a few rounds thru the M&P so far and find it more comfortable to hold. Mine seems well-made.

First Handgun, What was yours? Mine was...

    Dad bought me a S&W K-22 Masterpiece - 1978 or so. I bought a S&W M13 .357 with 3-inch bbl shortly after I turned 21 - 1983. Still have the M13.
