Not bad looking for a Century build: FN-49

I'm told SOP is to get it just cycling reliably, then tighten down the valve (thus increasing gas) two notches. See if that helps. Also, make sure you chamber is rust-free—I had weird FTE issues, and then I noticed that the extractor was eating case rims. Cause: rust chamber. My rifle...

    Magpul Rifle

Probably just catering to increased demand for proper battle rifle type rifles. And didn't Magpul say they were releasing Masadas with both STANAG magwells and AK-style wells, to accept both general cartridge families?

    First handgun!

Hey, go for it. I'm mostly a rifle shooter, handguns aren't (so much) my thing.

    9x18 Makarov.

    First handgun!

I was expecting to pull from the left side bay, which is why I was using my left hand to pull the shell out—normally I would lay the shotgun across my left arm and pull a shell out using my right hand. But I found out that it can be done without too much hassle wrong-handed. :)

    First handgun!

My very first pistol! Milsurp, of course. :D CZ-82. 9x18 Makarov, DA/SA, and a proper manual safety. Yay C&L carry (once I get my concealed carry permit). *** From shooting today (I was on Range 2 at PDHSC)... Roommate modeling the CZ82: Me shooting...

    Women friendly gun store

Have a store cat! :D Lighting is important. If you're not afraid of splurging a bit on your power bills, I'll even suggest using non-fluorescent lighting, just because it makes everything look so much better/not dead. Make the place look like a nice place to be, not like some hole in the...

pawned my left kidney for $616, bought an FN49 8mm...

Depends on the nubs. If you're using Yugo strippers, you need to grind down the outside two nubs, leaving the middle one intact. Actually, if I can un-ass myself today, I'll go ahead and do a clip or two and report back.

    M-14 (not M1A) questions

Didn't they often delete the selector switch, to keep people from using their rifles on full auto?

What is the most all around Practical firearm you have?

Most Practical would probably be my M44. Maybe my M91/59 once I put a red dot on it. (It helps that I actually have a few working stripper clips.)

Ordered a CZ-82, need holster recs

Anyone? I just ordered (hasn't come in yet) a CZ-82 (same as a CZ-83, but milsurp instead of commercial market), and I intend to use it as a carry pistol. What holsters can you guys recommend?

Ever let someone borrow a firearm?

My buddy and I will occasionally borrow each other's guns (I borrow his Buckmark somewhat often), but then again, "my buddy".

David E. Petzal's Gun Nut Quiz

8/10—I missed the one on .220 Swift, and the correct answer on the .22LR question was my second choice.

    Sleazy Gun Stores

I love staff like that; where I go, they're pretty up on civvie and Class III stuff, tactical gear, etc., but they'll often relay questions to me (if I'm around) when someone asks about one of the milsurps they have on display. I think I've been partly responsible for getting an entire table...

    Sleazy Gun Stores

"Gun people" do more damage to our image than any idiot in the anti-gun camp. IMO.

pawned my left kidney for $616, bought an FN49 8mm...

Joshy: not a clue. Mine kind of sprays them in the 12-o'clock to 2-o'clock area, clearing the receiver wall without trouble. How many notches is the gas system from not ejecting? If it's launching them with vigor, maybe you have it overgassed a little bit.

    Transfers insult to FFLs?

My choice shop charges $30, which might be a little bit high for the area (I hear there's a pawnshop somewhere that does $20 transfers), but the staff is nice and friendly and I'm always in their dinging up and fingerprinting their inventory anyway. :) Besides, I've been known to spot shinies...
