swede
How about 6.5 x 55 Swede?? Longer cartridge, excellent long bullets available, and you can take advantage of long magazine to run the bullets out to rifling.
recoil is modest, and ammo is plentiful.
crazy
Picture this: I'm 16, they take the forks off and turn them upside down on the lift, to get an extra couple of feet height. Then a rickity old basket is slid onto the forks. I get in the basket, and they run me up 4 stages to the top of the reach in the cart. the 2 biggest guys they can...
Swede
If that rifle is stock, why mess with it? There are many collectors looking for those rifles. Put it on gunbroker, put the money into a good affordable Savage.
You and the collector both end up better off.
Lower
I think you need to look on Bushmaster's website. They make a California legal lower which has an internal magazine. You have to have a gun dealer near you to order and accept delivery of it for you. The lower is considered a firearm and needs to be transfered by a dealer.
AR
Instead of buying a new high priced rifle why not invest in a top grade varmint upper and trigger for your AR. If you shop around you'll have money for reloading equipment left.
Could even go with a different caliber , such as 6.5 Grendel.

I think the OP is smarter than he is letting on.. He seems to be baiting and enjoying every response he gets..... Having limited knowledge, I haven't commented before this. I've learned a few new things reading here, and I'm enjoying the sparring also.
upper
I think you can use an A3 flat top upper with a carry handle attached A2 sights.
I'm currently putting together such an upper combo. I'll have a BM A2 used very little for sale soon.
