    .401 WSL advice

    (1) Try to chamber a fired case that hasn't been sized at all....if it won't go in, then you need to full length size the brass. (2) Run an empty case through the loading process WITHOUT charging with powder OR seating a bullet. IF it chambers, the bullet seating is the problem keeping loaded...

    Always check headspace on Milsurp?

Nerly everyone will tell you to have it checked...but i'd bet 99% of those people don't get their rifles checked. Are darned few gunshops with headspace guages at all, and if they do, they are for somthing you don't own. Save gas and time, call those shops first and ask.

    are adjustible sights necessary ?

It is a pain to get fixed sights shooting "on"...and only one load will be truely on....but it can be done. The whole point of fixed sights is that they are hard to get OUT of adjustment...they are nearly as difficult to hard to get IN adjustment (but once there, they stay there basically...

Didn't send my old guns in for the "improvements" and won't....let whoever gets them after I did deal with it.

    Mythbusters: snipe through scope

Am tempted. Have three dead cheap scopes that were given to me. I've stripped some extenal parts off some (turret caps...occular locking ring)...all have dead reticles, one has a seperation in the objective and a crakced AO ring...the thrid a cracked occular. Aren't ever going to be functional...

    Technical question - blowback actions

Worked quite a bit with a .401WSl...not a pistol, but might be the most powerful commercal blow-back caliber marketed. Used one devil of a big weight, an extention of the breech block, hidden under the fore end. None of the blow backs I know of run at real high pressure (not in the 50-55K...

    7.62 X 25 Tok Conversion Question

Believe the HP was made in .30Luger, doesn't have the grip length for the .30 Mauser.

    7.62 X 25 Tok Conversion Question

Catridge length is the killer...have seen a conversion of a Colt GM 9mm, but it wouldn't run with ball ammo; needed reloads with just a little less OAL, so the conversion was pretty much a waste of time. OFf hand, can't hink of any commerical 9mm handgun with enough length in the...

Can you use .44 Magnum dies for loading .44 Special?

If using the dies for a LONGER case to load a shorter case (like the .44mag dies used for .44special) may not be able to crimp...some makers used the same crimp die for both, others uses crimp dies specific to each caliber. Other than that, can adjust the dies expander and seaters to work.

Trying to find all the fixed barrel semis . . .

Lets see....off the top of my head: Blow Backs: Astra 400's and 600's (that would be 9mm Para and 9mm Largo) Detonics "Pocket 9" Various names for the zinc ugly cheap gun (I can't keep there names straight) made in 9/4/45 were simple blow backs. Am guessing the MAC's (9mm and 45) don't really...

Lightest load you use for .45ACP

Settled on 3.8gr. and a home cast 200SWC (which runs 208gr. from my alloy) as my minimum semi-auto round. Although I'm not above using 1.5gr. Bullseye and a greased ball for single shot fun.

    Numrich Arms Minute Man

Arre ways of fixing that stock to be stronger than it was when brand new, but fixing it so it won't show is pretty difficult (and probably impossible). Need to cross that break line with holes (even 1/8" holes would work). In this case, better to NOT have them break though to the otherside...

    Taurus Millennium Pro owners?

Kony: Would have if I were buying it...but this one was a gift, and it's going to have to stay for that reason alone. Have other guns I can carry for "real", this one will be a safe queen.

    Necking down ??

Basicaly, will need a .25-06 full length sizing die set...standard loading dies, not neck sizers or the Lee collet type. Would remove the decapping/rexpander assembly from the 25-06 die...lube the 30-06 case LIGHTLY (or you'll get lube dents)...and size them. Works best with NEW cases or with...

    Taurus Millennium Pro owners?

Was given a .40 Millennium Pro., made two range visits so far. Good points: has worked perfectly though the 200round break in (3 boxes of PMC "Bronze" and one of WW Silvertips), accurate, not uncomfortable recoil. Bad points: feels a bit top heavy, SA trigger pull feels "mushy". Suspected...

    Can you ID this cylinder?

that raised ring around the rear of the cylinder...that's an H&R trait. They did make some intercangable cylinder SA style guns, and I suspect this goes to one of them (H&R liked to give differnt model numbers to differnt finishes...but the basic gun would be the 649 or the 686).

.311-.314 handgun bullets in light loads, for a Mosin Nagant?

It is safe to reload those pistol bullets...would go with cast lead fr seriously low speed loads (in the 800-1200fps area) and jacketed bullets for faster loads (up to that 2000fps area). Of the two, lobbing those lead bullets out at sub-sonic speeds is proably the most fun (and quietest)...

Which Air Pistol For Practice At Home?

Been enjoying air pistols for a long time, and do use them for indorr practice. But I've found that the match guns, while a devil of a lot of fun and fantastically accurate, aren't the best trainers for firearms. Are just too good....large adjustable hand filling grips, recoiless, sights...

    Headspacing on the Casemouth?!!

Guys...ever measure how far out that 1911-type firing pin can move? If it goes in the chamber and is centered, even if grossly short, it's likely to be hit hard enough to go "bang". Can trim cases back (as one poster stated) a good bit and still get reliable functioning...doesn't do accuracy...
