44mag or 10mm for Wilderness Defense?

Between the two .44Mag, hands down. Overall, I'd rather have ANY big bore revolver .41 and up than the .357 or any 10mm. The 10mm is at best suitable for deer-sized game. Certainly not bears, no matter what the mob thinks. By and large "the mob" has never shot anything that bleeds, let alone...

Collectors Edition 10/22 and some reconfiguring

They're a really good option. If the M1 Carbine clone version was threaded, I'd have one of those too.

    Mare's leg type guns- why?

For a levergun SBR, it's really ideal. You can easily chop a boltgun or replace the barrel on an AR or 10/22 but it's a little more complicated to do on a levergun. Except that I don't recall seeing one that's threaded. Personally, I wouldn't waste the tax stamp when these little 16" guns are...

    Terminal performance comparison

Same difference. That's how a solid nose cast bullet "expands". Like this one.

    Mare's leg type guns- why?

I can see a lot more utility in the Shockwave than the Mare's Leg. If nothing more than to be stowed away to repel boarders and home invaders.

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

Amen! It strikes a real nice balance of power and portability.

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

I've had three of the Ruger .44 GP's but only kept the 5" Lipsey guns.

    Bar and Chain oil

Yep. I've also heard of some folks using used motor oil and that is terribly toxic.

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

They did a Colt SAA in his name, all blue, chambered in .44 Special.

    Winchester 1886 45/70 26” barrel

Last week I came so close to snagging a new 1886 22" carbine in .45-90 but resisted the impulse. The deluxe rifle is not that much more and that is probably what I would prefer. Worth pointing out that they are drilled & tapped for a receiver sight.

Ground hogs had a rough week

I wonder if anybody had an ethical issue with shooting baby rodents?

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

IMHO, the .44-40 can go away at any time. Any and all current .44-40 guns can henceforth be chambered in .44 Special. :P Exactly!

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

It means Venturino is trying to be controversial. ;)

    Bar and Chain oil

For me, the cordless saws are good for light or occasional work. My electric Husqvarna is a bit testy. Easy to stall and tough to keep the chain tight. I use the cordless on small stuff around the house or camping. Sometimes you just don't want to fool with a gas saw or smell like exhaust all...

Collectors Edition 10/22 and some reconfiguring

Looks like a standard 18.5" length. Worth pointing out that there are plain few variations that are both threaded and equipped with a front sight.

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

Could be but nothing packs on the hip like a 629MG. Still, plain few examples of comparable .454's. I reckon I would just say that for normal use, the .454 is a whole lot of what most folks don't need.

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

The .454 really limits your choices and they're all big & heavy.

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

MV's article reminds me of Wiley Clapp's "Screw the .44 Special" article years ago. He was nearly burned at the stake for it.

    Terminal performance comparison

I would say the difference is mostly impact velocity.

    Are 44 Revolvers Dying?

Hell no. There have been more .44's on the market in the last 10-15yrs than at any other time in history. Mike Venturino has a limited scope in his shooting interests. He only likes the old stuff. He doesn't do heavy loads or hunt with pistols. Probably never even shot a .44Mag. Sorry Mike but...
