No, SKS rifles are not legal in Chicago. Basically, no semi-auto rifles that have ever been used in combat (or their clones). No SKS, AK, AR, M1A, M1 Carbine, etc. Ironic that you can't own an M1 Garand but you can own a Remington 7400. Yeah, there's no rhyme or reason. A pump shotgun would be...

I'm planning to put aperture sights on a 10/22. I've punched out the factory front and rear sights. The new front sight will replace the old one, obviously, but the rear sight mounts on the receiver. Anyone know where I can get a ready-made blank for the rear dovetail? Thanks, much.

I agree that barrel length and weight make a world of difference, but WHERE you're shooting makes a big difference, too. Shooting .357Mags at an indoor range is not so much fun, but outdoors it's not a big deal. Same goes for many guns.

For concealability, go with Kahr. For capacity, go with Glock. I prefer the feel of the Kahr myself. As far as reliability goes, put at least a couple hundred rounds of defensive ammo (HP) through any gun before you count on it. Both are very reliable guns if you find the ammo they like...

Brinkmann Maxfire LX clamped to a Winchester 1300 Defender. Simple, rugged, very easy to operate and no cords to get hung up on anything. Best setup I've found for someone on a smaller budget.
