I had a TC contender carbine in 7-30 waters and it was a great little deer rifle. I agree that one should be a handloader for this round as the factory fodder choices are limited.

Go with the Saiga. It is a real Russian AK in a nutered form. I would get it in 7.62x39, Denuter for normal mags and never look back. I have a Saiga in .308 and 12ga and they are great guns. I also have an Wsar and a Bulgy AK and have left the SKS years ago. The AK is a better defense rifle.(IMHO)

I have one of each. My vote would be the Mini. Ammo being the best reason. I love my M1 and it is my wife's SHTF rifle if ammo was as cheap and plentful for it as the Mini it would be a harder choice. My thinking is to find a used Mini and have fun as they are hard to kill. Russ
