    favorite five rifle cartridges

Five hmmm, 1. 30 06 probably the best all around North American round ever. 2. 338 for when you want a little bit more... 3. 25 06 for small things far away. 4. 22lr too much fun with a 10-22 5. 458 lott for when things bite or stomp back.

    7mm Rem Mag or 30-06?

Celebrating 100 years and still going strong! IMHO 30 06 all the way. Although they will both work well for what you have mentioned. Try shooting each and see what you like best. The 7mm's I have shot seem to kick a little more although both are pretty mild.

Rebarreling a Winchester 70 Classic Stainless...Pac Nor, Shilen, Douglas

Finally landed on what I want and picked out a Winchester Model 70 Classic Stainless with a synthetic stock in .338 win mag. Only problem is that the .338's are very hard to locate - in fact I cannot find one. I did locate one in 7mm which I have been told is the same action and only...

    Fn49 or Hakim & why?

Having owned and shot an FN 49 in 30 06 for about 30 years I can certainly vouch for them. I use Federal Classic 180's in it and it has always shot straight and never jammed or given me any problems of any kind.

pawned my left kidney for $616, bought an FN49 8mm...

Gotta love those FN 49's The FN49 is a nice rifle. I bought one in 30 06 about 30 years ago for $65 and still shoot with it today. It has been absolutely trouble free although the last few years I must say I do not take it out as often. I think you will be very pleased with your purchase...

Remington 700 action vs Winchester Model 70

Thanks for the feedback and different views. Sounds like I'll shoulder a few different models and see what feels best. As well, no one seems to think the controlled feed cycle is important. My current Winchester does not have it and I have never miss fed it either. I was not aware that...

Remington 700 action vs Winchester Model 70

I am researching upgrading my hunting rifle (Winchester Model 670A in 30 06). This old 670 shoots very straight but I am going after bigger game now so I will be getting a 300 win mag or 338win mag. My research tells me the Remington 700 action or a Model 70 would both be good. I have heard...
